        Hi all,

I need some help on giving my Rabbit his Orbax suspension. It’s liquid form and i asked the receptionist from the Veterinarian offices when i picked it up this morning if it’s ok to mix it with his food. She said no, so i emailed my Vet since he’s not in today. However he takes a very long time to respond sometimes. Online, i’ve read conflicting information. Some say not to give it with food others say it’s fine. Anyone have any experience with this? My Bunny is not the best at taking meds but he has taken Metacam with food in the past. Is this any different? Any help would be great

Since rabbits should always have hay or veggies I don’t think it applies the same as to cats or dogs who may only be fed once a day. I’ve always just given my rabbits antibiotics at the specified time and you don’t want to mix any antibiotic into the food as you do not know if they will be getting the recommended dosage.

my bun was just put on orbax too. my vet didn’t say whether or not i could mix it with food, but i didn’t think to ask because i never mix the two. until you find out for sure, i’d give it without food.

My Vet replied to my email. He says it’s fine to mix it in with a treat if he refuses to take it. I’ve given Metacam to him like this in the past. He’s very squirmy when it comes to medication, so i usually resort to giving it with treats and he then gladly eats it. I ensure he eats the entire thing so that his whole dose is eaten. Usually i give it with Banana and it works great.
