› FORUM › DIET & CARE › Help ! My bun just chewed on ornament just cleaned with Brasso.
My hubby just cleaned an ornament for me with Brasso (This is a brass cleaner). I am decorating my tree. I was on floor and I set the ornament on the floor next to me. I was putting another ornament on the tree and I heard my bun chewing on metal. I looked down and she was biting on the metal ornament my hubby just cleaned with Brasso. Of course I grabbed the ornament immed. to get it away from her. She only chewed on it a second or two …. as I was right next to her and heard it right away. I am hoping I got it away from her in time. Any suggestions …. is there anything I need to give her ?
Let me add …. she is acting fine …. running around having a blast helping her mom put up the tree. She is so curious of all the boxes and tree in her living room.
I’m sure she’s okay. Just keep a close eye on her. Did you call poison control?
Follow up note : Bonnie Lee is doing just fine …. It is now the following day and I watched her carefully till 1:00 a.m. Fortunately, I was able to get the ornament away from her in time.
I do want to NOTE to everyone ……….I believe there was something in the smell of the Brasso cleaner she really liked …. so I just wanted to mention this in case anyone is using the product around their home and if your bun has free range of your home as Bonnie does here. Be careful and don’t set down the cleaning rag too ! I am glad my hubby cleaned the ornament for me in another room at a table …… otherwise, I would have probably done this on the floor and set the cleaning rag down on the floor. I have now learned I will always have to be careful with what I set on the floor. Bonnie normally never bothers anything. …. Or I will have to cage her during projects like this.
P.S. Bonnie Lee loves the Christmas Tree …. she likes sleeping under it. I collect Christmas tins for cookies ….and I told my husband this morning ….. this year I am going to have to use some of my large tins to put gifts in ….. so Bonnie Lee does not chew up the gifts …. as she does nibble some on boxes and paper.
( I have tied up all the wires and I have a very high outlet behind the tree ).
oh strange! well, i’m glad she’s doing okay now, and thank you for the warning to others. i would not have thought that brass cleaner would be appealing to buns, but i guess you can never tell what they’ll go after. continue to watch her for a few more days that she is acting/eating/drinking and pooping normally…
Usually if she’s fine 24 hours after ingesting something, you’re pretty safe. They have a high metabolism so whatever is in usually is out within a day (assuming all things are going in and out properly).
A close call there. That stuff stinks. So unappealing to us humans. Ok thanks for the warning. I have somethign I think is brass and hubby says is silver I need to polish up. I will be sure and do it outside just in case I leave somethign lying around while I am busy with it.
Hmm who knew.
Thank goodness she’s OK
