Help me rehab/replace Momma Dot’s house

So I posted about the overlapping NIC grids. Here is the issue, my bunny’s place looks pretty fab, but over time I have become unhappy about some things. I got a bunny condo used and over time added an ex-pen with a rug. Here are the issues:

It doesn’t quite fill the area I have. The corner I have the condo in is 9 inches shorter and I lose some space because I can’t really use the extra side area.

The screen covering the condo to keep the stuff falling out is impossible to clean. I could rip it off and put edging on the inside.

The floors are a little too far apart and ramps a little too steep. OK for a young bunny like mine, but eventually…. plus it blocks the windo since it’s so tall.

It’s got a huge door a pretty much leave open all the time which takes up real estate in Ex-pen.

Ideally I would love to build something that fits a little better in the area, about 40 x 30 inches with a front yard:pen attached with a wood base and edge around the yard to keep my family room from turning into a barn. And keeps the dogs from pushing in the pen because that parsley/banana/lettuce looks yummy. I could do a wood condo in corner, but I worry about circulation on hot days. Maybe grid type with levels. Take any suggestions or pics. Time is my biggest constraint for building. I do have tools/saws. I would like to be able to close up cage at times, not often.

Oh wow, it’s all wooden framed.

My first thing would be to split the door in two. Have it so you can just open a door at the bottom level, it will sit below the window and you can clip it back against the pen to keep it out of the way. The top part of the door can stay closed against the 2nd and 3rd levels so won’t block your view out the window. You would still be able to open this top door separately for cleaning.

The screen (like flyscreen?) around the outside just sounds like a pain, I would take it off and like you suggested put something solid in the inside in areas where it’s needed most such as around the litter tray and hay rack.

Personally I’ve never been a fan of ramps. I’d take them out and replace them with a midway step between each level. My buns love their steps.

Azerane, thanks. Hadn’t thought of modifying it like that. Yes. I’m not a fan of ramps either. I feel like she just puts her feet halfway up the ramps from the side and uses it as a step to the next level. I wonder if I can take out the floors and use a dowel/multi floor thing like most grid cages? I’ve got a lot of thinking to do.
