› Forum › HABITATS AND TOYS › Help me choose a Rabbit Carrier for our vet trips!
Hey guys!
I have been looking on Ebay for a good carrier to take our babies to and from the vet — with the 8 neuters that are coming up in the next 4 weeks!!! AHHHH!!!!!!!!
I have come across so many! The soft ones look really cool! does anyone have a soft one for their rabbits? Are they as good as the hard plastic ones?
these are the ones I have found. Please help me choose! I have no experience in rabbit carriers!!!
– 1. About $40
– 2. about $30
— 3. about 40
— 4. $70
– 5. about $25. but very small.
Which one would you guys get?
lol. I’d just go get one of those shopping trolleys you see by the roadside. Is the vet walking distance? j/k….what a sight that would make! So who exactly is up for the speuter? Is it everyone except the already snipped Mr Bunny?
They are all up for it. Starting with the 3 boys. The triplets.
Lol its funny, the vet is only a 2 minute walk from my house. Literally about 7 houses away. I carried Stu and Flopsy to the vet! but the boys are a lot more energetic! Playful little things! plus these look cool! and with 8 rabbits, im pretty sure it will get used!!!
Lol, I’ll put on my thongs and a blue singlet and go trolley hunting. Imagine pushing a trolley with 8 rabbits to the vet lol.
I kinda like #3, its cute!
I agree, #3 is good, and the price seems right. With that much $ going into spay/neuter I wouldn’t want to spend 70 bucks on the carrier. Plus it looks like a louis vuitton bag ![]()
I can’t really say…all the prices seem ridiculous because I got a relatively quite large carrier for 4$…so I guess I’m no help.
I like #2 and 3, though.
#2 reminds me too much about picnic baskets. I get enough jokes from people about eating my bunny, dont wanna give em any more ideas ![]()
I would recommend a hard carrier, actually. First, some buns could chew through the soft one (though admittedly they probably wouldn’t). My main reasoning is peeing! I don’t know if anyone else’s bun does this, but Otto pees every single time he’s in his carrier. I think it’s fright at the carrier being lifted and carried more than him actually having to pee. For that reason alone I’d never get him a soft carrier. I like something that’s wash and wear 🙂
If you think they won’t pee all over a soft one, I think I like #3. It’s cute and seems like a reasonable price. Does the top zip open? If not, I’d pass. I love having a carrier with a top opening because that’s the only way to get Otto in and out at the vet (until he gets home, then he runs out of the front door and hides in his maze).

LMAO! Ok, for those of you unsure on this comment, it’s a cultural thing. The blue singlet is sort of a reference to “rednecks/hilbillies/bogans” etc. Oh, and “thongs” are what we call flip-flops…LOL *giggle at how THAT could have been misread!*
Edit: Kafrn, sorry to go so off topic.. this all reminded me of the beginning of this comedy sketch from the very Aussie Carl Baron. This is from Montreal Comedy Festival. http://www.youtube.com/watch Course, I’ve gone on to watch his other vids and am pissing myself. Love him!

mmm…this pic has me thinking of kytkattin too for some reason…![]()
LOL at the doggie carriage. Are those little doggie eyes peeking out from the lower level? Poor pups don’t even get to sit up on top where there’s a view!
I agree with Elrohwen about a hard carrier. I think it’s more secure for the bunnies, and they DO pee.
I like #1. I prefer things on wheels. It can be heavy and if you have one on wheels you can easily juggle a second one to carry
I will also weigh in and say that a plastic carrier is going to be the most practical. Soft ones can be easily chewed up (especially by younger, energetic buns!) There is the whole issue of them possibly peeing in the carrier and then not being able to clean it or get the smell out. Another thing to consider is that a plastic carrier can be disinfected. This is important since you’ll be using it to transport multiple buns to and from the vet.
I agree- a plastic cat carrier is best. An unattended bunny (even left for a moment) could possibly escape/ruin a soft carrier- but not a hard plastic carrier. Plus the cleaning factor is important. I had cats before I had bunnies- so I just use on of their carriers.
I third, or fourth or whatever the hard carrier. They are sooooo important to have in a natural disaster! They are stackable! We have 1 for every 2-3 animals (and a large one for all the chihuahuas), and luckily don’t live in an area where there are frequently natural disasters. Not to mention the pee thing. My rabbits always pee too.
lol @ Jersey. Yeah, that’s about how it is. Except 3 of our 12 are “big” dogs. So essentially I have bodyguards for my Chihuahuas.
they all look nice but niether of them look like they have a supportive base on the bottom except for what it looks like the 1st one
without that supportive base you bunny will be all ..all..like smushed and not able to move but i dont know ask one of the forum leaders
also 3 looks nice and supportive(and trendy,lol)
i like number 3 but i defentily agree with the hard carrier. they can take quite the beating and still make it thru the day. good luck
i like #4
it looks roomy ![]()
Those are cute! I like the 4th too… but… I’ll weigh in here like everyone else has… I think a hard carrier would be better.
Like some people have mentioned – so much easier to hose down and disinfect if someone pees (or in case you have to carry a bun with poopy butt! Hopefully not though!)
Another thing, I don’t know how much car travel you’d be doing with them, but… I would think a hard carrier is better for car travel. I haven’t actually read anything supporting that though, but common sense says to me that in the event of a car accident: one, the carrier will hopefully protect the bunny from the air bag/crunched car body, and two, it will keep him from escaping – things are hectic and confusing in the aftermath of a car crash, and if the door fell off or something and the scared bunny has an escape route, chances are he’s gonna run.
When traveling with Leroy, I actually run the seat belt though the carrier handle and strap it in… it may be a bit extreme, but I figure better safe than sorry!
i have a hard carrier too, but when were driving hershey has nothing to grip onto so shes always sliding around in there.. lately ive just been using her smllest cage in the back of the car…
MirBear, have you tried putting down newspaper and maybe a blanket or towel in the carrier? That seems to keep my bun from sliding around too much 🙂
yeah the blanket doesnt work well
the michivious little thing shoves it in a corner and try’s to eat it.. i jut gave her newspaper for the first time recently and shes still getting used to it so ill try that when shes more confertable with it
Haha, yeah, if I put papertowels down (to soak up the pee; Otto always pees) he just bunches it up in a corner. I find newspapers work pretty well because they can’t be bunched up easily.
thanks for the idea’s!! Hershey NEVER pee’s in the car.. besides she doesnt normally go in a carrier unless its a long trip (over an hour) other than that we put on her harnes and leash and she sits with me ![]()
Another thing you can do to keep the blanket in place is to attach it or wrap it around a cut piece of cardboard the size of the carrier. Then put another blanket on top for bunching… I also use the seat belt to secure our carrier in the car.
soo… what one did you choose???????!!!!!!

Otto comes out of his cage for 12+ hours a day and feels no need to pee or use his litter box in any way. The second he’s in his carrier and I pick it up, he pees everywhere. Haha. Poor guy, I think he’s so scared by the picking up part that he pees his pants. I know it’s not because he can’t hold it. Once I just put down newspaper, nothing else, and it was totally saturated within 10 minutes and he was trying to sit on the 3 square inches that weren’t wet. Poor little bun! Now I make sure to put down lots of newspapers and papertowels and sometimes a blanket if I’ll be able to wash it afterwards.
Like someone else said, I think you should get a hard one. Sunny chewed threw the mesh on her old one. I have a doggy/cat like carrier, and luckily enough my neighbors maltese got too big and she let me have her hard one.
id like to try a mest one with hershey… it would be alot nicer than a hard one… also has anyone ever tryed carrying a bun around in a little purse… like people do with small dogs.. it sounds mean but it would be funny to try.. i can imagine it now.. hershey in a small purse with her head out of the top … people would probably stare but hershey loves attention![]()
I’ve tried the purse thing. Leroy doesn’t like it b/c the bottom isn’t solid. I had a big bag with a reinforced bottom, but still, I’m sure he could feel the bag giving under his feet so he got out as soon as I put the bag down. Also, he doesn’t like being confined liek that… but I wish he put up with it, it would have been so cute!
