Help! I need to turn this into a ramp for Lily

This is where Lily sleeps because my apartment isn’t 100% bunny proofed just yet! But during the day she needs to be able to go in and out of this as she pleases. She has hopped in but not very graciously and won’t hop out because it’s too scary!! Any and all suggestions are welcome! 

In the very near future she won’t use this at all, but for the time being until she gets better at litter training and my apartment is much more safe this is where she sleeps!

You could zip tie a piece of outdoor carpet to the door if she wouldn’t chew it. If she would chew, maybe build a wood piece with little grips that you can zip tie on?

LEL she hasn’t really chewed the carpet in the apartment so that might do the trick!

I just don’t want her getting hurt.

Was also going to say the carpet idea. I did something similar to that but with a blanket for some guinea pigs I watched for a bit. They wouldn’t let me pick them up so the blanket helped a lot. Hope it works out for you!

I had my Dad attach L-brackets to a piece of wood- I then velcroed a hand towel onto it so my rabbits would have traction. Here’s a picture, I can upload a better one if you would like.

Even using stationary binder clips, you should easily be able to attach something solid and remove it when door is to be closed.
Does she need anything at the doorway on the inside of the cage?

I was looking around today, when I was out and about. I believe I can make a solid two way ramp for pretty cheap.. It will have carpet material with some type of “steps” just in case the carpet doesn’t grip as well as she wants. And I can just insert and remove it during the day and at night…. Last night when she was out all she wanted to do was hop around the cage and sniff the outside.

I guess I should have started out by saying, this set up was originally outside on our balcony, and at first it was okay. But as I was reading I really don’t feel comfortable with her outside in the TEXAS heat. It was like 88 degrees here and felt like 92. I know rabbits live outdoors and she would probably be okay if I kept water bottles / frozen tiles etc in there. BUT I don’t want to! There really isn’t a reason why she can’t come in. I clean her cage and she is using the litter box (pretty well). So it’s not like a nasty rabbit cage inside. And, when I get all bunny proofed I want her to be able to get into the cage as she pleases.

I live in Texas too and it’s way to hot outside (at least starting now) for a rabbit. Seems like we went from very cold to pretty warm (fine for us humans though).

We also have nasty things in our lawns like cuterebra that can weasel into a rabbit and cause death – I had a friend who used to let her rabbit outside (she thought she would enjoy it) and her rabbit contracted a nasty cuterebra that luckily stuck it’s nasty head out and the vet who had great experience noticed it and was able to evacuate it from Molly – she had to go daily to get antibiotics and have the wound cleaned – she survived but just barely. I doubt that would be a problem on a balcony with no grass though….

Sarita- OMG don’t google cuterebra images! Is there a way to prevent them? I am going to be a mom like that movie Bubble Boy if I keep looking at those pictures. That’s so terrible. How on earth can I take Lily out after seeing those pictures?

Yes, they are nasty creatures – the only way to prevent them is to not let your rabbit outside in the grass – they can sniff these things up their nose apparently which is what happened with Molly.
