So I have just put up a post about whether or not to neuter my bunny Oreo but now something even worse has happened. If any of you guys have read the other forum labeled eye issues cause that is exactly what is happening to Oreo. It’s really wierd cause my buns problem is also on it’s left eye but my mom won’t let me take him to the vet until we are positive that something is wrong I’m really scared that something bad might happen to his eye so I would like to know if it could be really serious like if he could loose his eye or if it’s just a small scratch that could be treated with eyedrops. Either way I’m going to take him to the vet but I would like to know if anyone knows what this could be so I could see how fast I should take it to the vet

I haven’t read the post you’re referring to, but I would ask your mother if you could see how it is in the morning and if it’s not better if she would please take you to the vet tomorrow.

I doubt you have to worry about him losing an eye. There is a lot of medical care that can happen before anything that drastic takes place, so don’t worry tonight but keep your eye on it. I’ll try to find the other post.

Found it. So if you can get your Wednesday appt. changed to tomorrow (Monday, at least where I am) it would be a good idea.

The purpose of the vet visit is to determine if something is wrong. I’m not sure what your mother’s veterinary qualifications are, but if she does not have experience in this field, she really should defer to professionals. The truth is, something bad may happen, and if left untreated too long, the treatment may take longer, be more difficult, and more expensive. Home remedies or “waiting it out” can cause more harm than the initial problem. Keep us posted on what the vet says please. (((Healing vibes for Oreo!)))

It’s tough to convince parents sometimes

but my mom won’t let me take him to the vet until we are positive that something is wrong

What are the rabbit’s symptoms? If the rabbit has any symptoms of an eye infection-that’s your mom’s proof something is wrong. Runny eye, goobers, eye crusties, sniffling etc-are indications your bunny is ill and I don’t know what else your mom is looking for to be positive something is wrong…but perhaps have your mom phone the vet and describe the symptoms-and then the vet can tell her-yes this rabbit needs to come in.

It’s not a “take your bunny to the emergency room this second”-but it IS a “take your bunny to the vet in the next day or two”. When rabbits get sick it is very serious as they are very fragile.

Thanks to everyone. I have taken Oreo to the vet and they just gave him a few eyedrops to help his eye heal but they said he would be fine. His next appointment will be to neuter him but I have had to move the appointment to next week cause the clinic close to my house doesn’t have the supplies so Oreo will have to wait awhile

Great news!! Did they just give antibiotic drops-or did they do testing and find out what it was? Did they check teeth? Sometimes eye probs can be caused by teeth (you’ll know if they checked teeth because they put a thing that looks like what the dr. uses to check your ears-in the bunnies mouth). At any rate I’m sure during the neuter they’ll take a good look at his teeth-especially if you ask them to

They put some smalldrops on his eyes but didn’t check the teeth they said it wasn’t infected or anything it was just that he poked his eye now I’m going to check everything possible to try to find the evil object that hurt Oreo lol you’re probably right and they will check his teeth when they neuter him

He could have scratched his eye on anything. He could have gotten hay in it, he could have scratched it himself with his toenail, it’s pretty easy for an animal to injure an eyeball. I’m glad you got to take him to the vet and you were able to get the drops.
