› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › HELP! Chacha sprained her paw!!
As I was approching her couch, she jumped off, and she hurt her left paw. She is kind of licking it now, and lifting it up in the air. I don’t know what to do. I called my vet and they are closed tomorrow, and booked up. I got other referrals and it seems like they are closed. I have to go to work at 11:20
Is there anything I can do for her paw?
Oh no! Poor Chacha
I’d probably call and ask the vet maybe?
See if your vet will advise on the phone. I’d say-ensure she’s eating drinking and pooping and keep her off it-cage rest, or at least no zoomies and couch is off limits. I don’t know I’d advise cold or hot, especially without knowing exactly what happened. Just rest and ensure she’s not in pain but making sure she eats and all that good stuff {{{Chacha}}}
Maybe the vet would let you drop her off and they could check when they had time and you could pick her up later?? I’ve heard some members give that advice. A few weeks ago I visited a local rescue. They had a new abandoned rabbit who had a broken leg at one point. They had a sign on the pen to be sure it was well padded and there was no place for him to jump up on anything. I recently went back and he was doing fine.
do you see swelling or bruising?
it may have just been a toe rather than the paw.
Vivian sprained her back paw before and she was okay in a few days, but I had pain meds.
I wouldn’t know if Chacha sprained OR broke anything. Many times if it’s a toe, you can’t do much about that anyway, but pain meds can prevent gi stasis if a bunny is in pain. And a vet may give other meds for inflammation or some other treatment if it is more serious. Hopefully there will be a vet that can at least give a phone consultation…what a terrible time as everyone is going on vacation except for emergency vets.
SO sorry, I hope it is as something as simple as a broken toe nail or a simple sprain that will heal quickly.
Vibes to Chacha. I know you take Chacha regularly to the vet so I would call and consult with the vet about this. I always drop my rabbits off as well if the vet is in but it’s a holiday so I’m not sure that your vet will be available to see little Chacha.
Twin vibes to ChaCha bun! Poor little baby! Keep us updated
Sometimes I would accidentally lean my weight on my 1st bunny, Lash’s front paw when we were lounging together on the bed…she would lift it up in the air and flick it. i would take it and rub it between my fingers vigorously and she stopped flicking it. Just passing this along. When I hit my knee on the bedframe I rub it vigorously and the pain seems to go away quicker. But I don’t know if this will help in this instance – use your best judgment. You can try rubbing the paw – GENTLY – and see if she stops raising it in the air and flicking it. But stop if it seems to cause her pain or she pulls away. HEALING VIBES to Cha Cha and her little paw!
{{{ChaCha!}}}
Brittany, Jersey did this to her front paw several months ago. She seemed to manage well though and it didn’t stop her doing anything. They gave her an anti inflammatory/ analgesic at the time. Is ChaCha tucking her leg up close to her body?
For now, you could try an ice pack on it perhaps???? Or put one on the floor under her paw. If it’s gives her relief she might stay resting her leg on it. A sock tied up with rice grains in it and popped in the freezer would make a temporary ice pack.
My dad watched Chacha while I went to work, and he said that she was eating hay and sleeping.
She is not limping or anything, and John stayed with me for a while after I got off work – to monitor her. She is doing fine right now – isn’t grooming her paw or hopping funny.
She was sitting on her princess chair, and I went to kiss her forehead and she ran off as I squatted next to her.
I was so freaked out at work. Thank goodness that I got to cashier next to one of my coworkers that understands my love for Chacha.
I’m glad she seems okay. ****Hugs to Chacha***
Glad she’s better. Might want to keep her off of anything high so she doesn’t jump for a day or two just to make sure.
it was probably more like jammed finger. hurts like a beotch for a while, but then the swelling goes down and you’re good
edit: am i seeing things or did the forum automatically respell the word beotch for me?
edit #2: hahaha, yes it did…
LOL
BB has this program where the computer won’t let “certain” words get on the forum. I forget which word it edited a while back that had us all scratching our heads going Wha???
Talk about an auto spell check!
I’m glad little Chacha is better – how scary for you though! Make sure Ms. Chacha knows to be more careful in the future!

you do understand that a test thread is obligatory…
Lol, the forums are PG.
I believe we can label a thread “test” in the tech section when trialling things….
If rabbits could talk, it has made me wonder just what ChaCha would have said?
If rabbits could talk, I think it would be like Alvin and the Chipmunks on a bad day.
(Can you imagine Stink Eye with words? Scary.)
How is Miss ChaCha this morning?
Jersey, I think she would have said a variety of cuss words, and footflicked!
RabbitPam, Chacha is doing GREAT! She opened her presents (with help of mommy!). Her grandpa got her a bag of papaya treats. I got her two willow baskets tied together (with hay cubes inbetween!). She seems to favor her grandpa’s candies more than what I got her
She is back to her footflicking, diva self!
Thank you everyone ![]()
Glad to hear that Chacha is doing better!
So glad to see this thread has a good ending. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the title…I thought, not Chacha, not near christmas! So happy to hear that she’s doing better.
Thank you
You all mean a lot to me – a lot of people don’t understand, unless they REALLY know me and have seen Chacha in person.
Her highness is back to her footflicks. She even took a pomegranate raisin from my hand, and ran away footflicking.
YAY ! Glad Chacha is back to her old self, bet you were never so happy to see foot flicks. ![]()
