I am fairly new to rabbits and have a great rabbit vet. Last night my rabbit Cadbury jumped on on the bed just playing and jumped to close to our car Zoe and they got in a little fight and grabbed each other. My husband and I got them a part and Zoe doesn’t have any damage or scratches and seems fine today. Cadbury however seemed fine last night no scratches or anything and I got up this morning and he didn’t run up to get his pets, didn’t run over to get breakfast and has had a slight head tilt all day and will not hold his left ear up. He’s sat in his hutch all day and won’t come out and play which is not like him at all and has ate today nibbled on hay and lettuce but nothing like he normally eats. I called my vet and told her the situation and she said he might have got a puncture would and it’s getting infected but advised it wasn’t life threatening and could wait until the morning if I wanted but that I could bring him in for an in call emergency appt no problem. My other rabbit Luna just got spayed a few days ago and had one does of pain meds left for tonight but my vet said since Luna is doing so great and running around and playing and eating to give it to Cadbury so I did. This was all about 1:30 this afternoon. He’s still looks in pain and doesn’t want to come out or eat or socialize I’m worried to go to sleep. Should I take him in tonight or is he okay to wait till AM to gets the antibiotics and get checked out by his DR? I hate seeing my little guy not himself and hurting. Does anyone have experience with this? What are turning signs he’s getting worse? Please any advise would be greatly appreciated. What can I do to make him more comfortable?

Cat scratches and bites can contain nasty bacteria which can quickly set into an infection. If it were me and my rabbit was lethargic, barely eating, and had a tilt, I’d be taking him in as soon as I could, there’s nothing worse than waiting the night only for things to be worse in the morning. As with any infection, the sooner you get on top of it, the easier it is to fight off.

I agree. The sooner head tilt is seen, the better. It’s good the vet recommended giving the metacam. The anti inflammatory properties will help. Are you able to monitor his temperature?

Head tilt can sometimes occur after a trauma, or stress.

“cat scratch fever” is a very real thing in humans so I am assuming the bacteria would affect a bun even more. of course I am not saying that is definitely the problem but it is something that would need treatment immediately. I would get him seen as soon as possible. lots of good vibes to Cadbury and fingers cross its nothing major!

Cat scratch fever…Never knew there was such a thing! Yikes!
I got quite a few from a visting cat I was feeding for a while.

                Cadbury&LunaRoo, how is Cadbury doing?

Yes, cat scratch fever is a thing, although I do think it’s pretty rare. I can’t even begin to count the number of cats I’ve been scratched by, and no fever here Then again, it’s possible that the average person’s immune system is good enough that it never becomes terribly serious, because it can have some quite serious complications, but not commonly.

I’d take him in sooner rather than late reply. Will be best for him but also for you so you don’t worry as much once he’s sorted
