Yesterday, East Bay Regional Parks employees were down at the Hayward Shoreline and found that EIGHTEEN friendly pet rabbits had been dumped there. They were able to catch them and bring them in to the Hayward Animal Shelter, where they will be officially available for adoption this Thursday, March 3rd. Hayward shelter only has room for 4 rabbits, so we need YOUR HELP to spread the word about all the wonderful & friendly rabbits available at the Hayward Animal Shelter! Please share with friends, post to your Facebook page, share with your church coffee hour, tell your book group – help us get the word out! See this up-to-date list.

If you can adopt a bunny (indoor homes only, please), please go directly to the Hayward Animal Shelter, address & hours below. If you can foster a rabbit for a couple months or longer, until the rabbit can find a forever home, please email fosterbun[@]gmail.com, removing the brackets from the address.

We will have glamour shots soon, but you can see their paparazzi shots here:

Ahh god Kiwi has been needing a home for MONTHS. Let me talk to my mom about fostering again at least okay and I’ll get back to you. This pulls at my heart.

Thanks RabbitPam & Lintini!  Kiwi is already in a foster home, so he’s safe, but there’s SOO many bunnies right now!  Lintini, let me know if your mom is open to fostering!  We have found 2 foster homes, but with this many bunnies, we could sure use a bunch more!

Enjoy the bunnies’ new glamour shots!  The rabbits will be available for adoption starting Thursday, March 3rd!

WONDERFUL news! ALL of the Hayward “Beach Bunnies” are safe!!!

On Thursday, 19 rabbits went to rescue & foster, and Dennis was adopted at Hayward Shelter! Today, Kimmie (not pictured above) was adopted at the Bunny Mardi Gras! There are 3 more rabbits who will go to spay on Monday, and to foster homes, and Hayward Shelter will be left with just Seneca & Al!

If anyone is interested in adopting these rabbits, here are the rescues where they have gone, in the order of their photos above!

The Hayward Kennedy Park staff just came and adopted Al for their petting zoo – while he won’t be a house rabbit, taking in rescue animals is a great way for public petting zoos to participate in the rescue/sanctuary movement, and he will get dedicated care for the rest of his life! And lots of supervised petting!

Seneca is the ONLY rabbit left at Hayward Shelter – anyone looking for a big wonderful, loving bunny??

Sigh. I am across the country, but I just checked out your new glamour shots and thought that Seneca was a beautiful bun. I love REWs.
That’s great news about getting them all set with the exception of Seneca, who is being featured now because I am bumping this post so it will be seen again today so Seneca can find a forever home.

Seneca & Janet were adopted together! There are currently ZERO rabbits at the Hayward Animal Shelter!!!

Almost all of the rabbits above are still available for adoption through the respective rescue groups, listed above! If you’re considering adopting a rabbit, please look to one of these wonderful groups who are doing incredible lifesaving work!

That’s wonderful! I hope the other bunnies get adopted from their rescue groups!
