  This morning Elvira was totally fine. Ate her pellets, veggies, hay, and was acting completely normal. Around 4 pm I went in and could tell she had an upset tummy. She wouldnt eat the apple I brought her. I gave her simethicone and gave a tummy massage. Its 8 pm now. Gave her more simethicone around 7 and put a dropper full of water in her mouth. Shes still acting uncomfortable. I tried heating up pellets in water, nothing. Mint teat? Wasnt interested.
  
  OF COURSE, I want to get her to a vet, but its Saturday and 8 pm. The emergency vet is an option, but I want to try everything I can before we spend $400 at the emergency vet. What can I do to help her? Should I go ahead and take her to the emergency vet? She’s 10 months old, eats hay like a monster, loves her veggies. I have no idea what could have caused this as she was recently at the vet and had a great bill of health.
  
  Edit: we ended up bringing her to the emergency vet. I guess advice is no longer needed!

  I don’t think I would panic just yet – it sounds pretty normal to not eat everything always. I would just try to entice her with more greens and maybe cut out any sweets altogether.

  She wouldn’t eat anything at all. She was hunched over and very uncomfortable for at least 5 hours that I know of. Hopefully the vet will help.

  My bunny had this about 5 months ago. it took me 2 days to know something was wrong and to get to the vet. One morning when I woke up she hadn’t finished all her pellets thought she was having an off day then the next day the same thing. She also started acting funny and I knew something was wrong when she wouldn’t eat her veggies. The only thing she was eating was an apple. Then after i took her to the vet she started eating parlsey. I wouldn’t panic right away if it happens again. I know now if it happens to my bunny I have some critical care on hand to give her. What did the vet say? Prayers sent to your bunny she recovers fully.

  Thank you! We just got home from the vet. They gave her fluids and some pain meds, as well as, metoclopramide. We were there for about 3 hours (ugh) and when we got home she seemed to already be feeling a bit better. She had a tiny piece of apple, a few small pieces of kale, a few pellets, and some hay — which is awesome! Not interested in her veggies yet, but hopefully she will be much better tomorrow.

  I’ve had it happen where my bun is really unwell for several hours so we go to the vet, spend like $200.00, bring him home and then he seems almost back to normal when we get home.

  I really just didnt know what to do. For 6 hours i tried every at home remedy I could find online and she still seemed incredibly uncomfortable. Tossing and turning on her sides, a little teeth grinding. At that point, I was terrified so I just took her in. She seems much better this morning! She ate everything I offered her, but still seems a bit lethargic… Not her spazzy self. I’m hoping later this evening she will be back to normal.
  Any advice on what to do if it happens agin?

  Might want to re-evaluate her overall diet first and foremost. Most vets are going to recommend you start at the very beginning.

  I’m not sure what I could change about her diet. They get greens twice a day (spring mix and a small bit of kale), unlimited timothy hay (which she loves!), a small bit of oat hay, about 1/4 a cup of pellets, and a tiny bit of fruit. Anything I could change?

  Does the Spring mix have spinach in it? I’ve read that because spinach is so high in protein and iron that if you feed it every day it can cause problems.

  That seems like a good diet. My rabbits get a really good diet and I have dealt with GI stasis with all of them. Sometimes, the reason is just a mystery, unfortunately. But it’s certainly a good idea to get a vet exam and discuss the situation, since it may happen again.
