        I need help, you guys…

We picked up Thumper tonight, just to cuddle… and all around her right scent gland is bald.  There’s still fur around her other one (the left one), but there is seriously no fur in the patch around her right scent gland.

We cleaned her scent glands less than 2 weeks ago, and everything looked fine.

But now, there’s no fur there… help! We’re so worried. Should I take her in to the vet (I know of reputable rabbit vets in the area, don’t worry), or is this something that we can take care of/will heal itself…. HELP!!!

(I’ll post a pic of it, if that would help…)

        Thanks guys.

Well there is nothing like a reassuring visit to a vet. I have never experienced that so I can’t help you. When in doubt, make the appointment.

That’s odd. You think she pulled it out? Or got yanked somewhere? If it’s not on her, where is it?
I dont know much about it so I cant help you. I’m just thinking of questions that I would ask if it was me. Good luck

both of the bunnies had been shedding, and their fuzz is all over the place.. i don’t see one particular “patch” that would’ve come off of Thumper’s rear end. so I don’t know..

I’m wondering if it could be her over-grooming herself? Any thoughts??

I just googled “rabbit bald spot” and came up with this, from the Massachusetts HRS:

“Bald spots on rabbits are quite common when they are shedding. If you notice bald spots during your rabbit’s shedding season, do not be alarmed; the hair will begin to grow back within a week or two. ”

So, do you all think I should just wait it out, and see if her fuzz grows out? I just don’t want to be overlooking it, if it is cause to worry. Also, the skin that is showing looks healthy and peach-colored, doesn’t look infected or anything.
Sorry for all the posts, just want my bums to be taken care of

if the skin stays healthy looking, the patch doesn’t seem to get bigger & bigger and you havent’ noticed any other physical / behavioural changes my inclination would be to just keep an eye on it.  shedding seems a likely cause.  i have never found a bald spot on my buns but i have noticed a few posts about this related to shedding.  hopefully some one here will chime in if there’s another health issue possibility that warrants a vet visit!

                      update on Thumper:

We’ve been checking the blad spot every day, and it looks like this is the best case scenario. I think it was just a major shed for her. Her fur is growing back, and her skin still looks healthy. So, yay! Thanks everyone for the reassurances

oo i am glad to hear it’s not looking irritated or anything, continuing to keep an eye on it is prolly a good idea.

I am glad that Thumper seems to be OK.  The first time that our Rex went through a major shed I was convinced that she had mites because the fur came out in these weird looking oddly shaped sections, and sometimes the skin underneath shows through before the new coat grows in.  Does Thumper live with other bunnies?  Sometimes when a bunny is shedding, their friends can overgroom them and make bald patches too.

I really think it’s this molting because Edson is shedding something fierce in the last few days.  I have been combing out just tons and tons of fur.  I have never been thru a molting but this must be it big time.  I wonder how long it lasts? I can see a new undercoat in spots.  He looks rather patchy right now.  The inside of his legs are patchy so I’m sure yours is just going thru this as well.
