Good Morning to all! I have not posted lately.  My apologies, but I do know where to go to get the best advice. .. Izabella, is doing great.  Healthy, and happy! And in general very well behaved.  However, we have a little problem.  She gets out of her cage about 3-4 times a day for about 20-40 minutes at a time, and we had her secluded to the family room.  She did not want to want on the tile, until my 16 daughter trained her it was safe just a few days ago without thinking Mom was having surgery in less than a week that would leave her on crutches and unable to chase Izzy during the day! .  This morning when I caught Izzy by the front door, Izzy was not happy and fought big time – and my poor hand is sliced up from her nails she was so mad.  She can’t help herself, she is just excited, she has just been given major freedom and now we are trying to cut it back, she is mad. .   My hand looks horrible…

We even tried to get her a leash, and a harness for when I am on crutches.  No, not a good idea.  Anyone have any  other ideas.  Izabella is my baby, and to be honest she has helped me greatly with distraction as I am disabled with crohns and chronic pain issues.  She is a wonderful bunny, and I hate the thought of keeping her in the her cage all day until someone is one to catch her.

Anyone have suggestions?  I have tried a baby gate, but with my floor boards, Izzy flattens out (I did not know fat bunnies could go that flat!) and slides right under it.

        Thank you so much!

        Hugs,

        Gin

I’d suggest an x-pen to expand her space next to her cage, or put it in another room and take her in there and enclose her in the x-pen while you hang out together. They take up a large area of floor space, and you could even put a chair inside and sit in it with her since there’s no top. Otherwise, give her the run of a different room with the door closed, but you may need to have someone carry her in there with you.

Can you set up her cage so that she can return to it when she wants to? Bunnies are far far happier being able to come and go from their cage as they please – then you can train them to go back when you want by offering a treat. I find that mine are more than happy to go back to their cage at night when they know it’s time for dinner or if I shake the treat bag. Having to chase her and catch her will just be stressful for you and for her.
