Ok so I have posted before but saddly im still stuck with the same issue. My 7 month old spayed rabbit uses her litterbox and the floor infront of her litter and the mantal of our fire place. I have been through many products and I am beginning to think its a habbit now. Is there a way to repel her frim that spot ? Like a spray or something? We are blocking the areas off but she just gos infront of it. I seriously am frustrated because I just so baddly want her to get it. She has freedom of the house and is best buddys with my cat. She has a hutch with a ramp to sleep in and her litter is in the room righr next to it. Im wondering if I am doing something wrong? Help! Please!
Try a second litter box? Some rabbits are just picky about being spoiled
I tried but she gos beside it. She only wants to use her one that she has.
Is it the litter? How often are you changing it? Have you tried changing it more often to see if that helps? How big is the litter box?
One of my rabbits also pees in front of her litter box, if it is a small box. I just put the litter box a few pee pads, so that when she inevitably goes outside the box, it’s at least on the pee pad. She does’t pee everywhere – just in the box and in front of the box. I haven’t been able to convince her to pee only in the box. When I give her larger litter boxes, she is less likely to pee outside of them. But I still put even the larger boxes on pee pads. As long as there is about 18 inches of pee pad outside the box, my floor is safe. Changing the litter box daily is also a good way of keeping her pee in the box. She looooves fresh hay. So when I change the box, she hops right in to eat the fresh hay, and pees and poops. So at least once a day, I can control where she pees. If I add a small amount of fresh hay to the box 12 hours later, then that is twice a day that I can control where she pees.
Yeah I found an at home rabbit repelent that is safe for animals. Its to deture her hopefully. I bought a gate to block off the areas she has trouble with and also sprayed them. I hope this will help her want to stay away from the area if its no longer appealing to her.
She’s definitely trying to tell you something. The litterbox should be big enough for her to lay in, as many rabbits enjoy relaxing in their box. Are you piling hay ontop the box everyday? If she is going in the same spot, try putting another box there!
Her litter box is large enough for her its a large bottom of a cat litter box. She loves it but she also loves rhe floor.
Is she litterbox trained? If not you can reduce her play area to quite small so she goes only to the litter tray. When she goes more and more often regularly she should get the idea that the tray is where she should go. Then when you start to increase her space again she should go back there instinctively…. It worked for another member whose bunny had untrained herself….. You could try. ![]()
Yeah for the most part she is. Its just that one spot. Shes a meanie lol
So nothing has worked. I believe its because shes so young and gets to use the house all day by herself with the cats. May be to much responsibility for her yet. So I am locking her in her hutch while we are out or sleeping. I figure it forces her to use her litter box so she has to learn.
Certainly giving a bun freeroam of the whole house straight away may not give her the idea of getting back to litterbox to do her business. Do you have a run of some sort or barriers that you can put outside her hutch or close off one room at a time…? And then extend the freeroam area bit by bit….?
Yes I do. I have a baby gate we put out to keep her in one area but for the most part she has been free roaming with the cats. I have tried keeping her to one area but she kept going in the corners next to her litter box that is always topped up. So I got frustrated and thought confining her to her large hutch when we are unable to watch her was a good idea. Do you think I should let her have more space? I dont want her to hate me but I feel like if I dont she wont be trained proper. Shes very territorial even though shes spayed. Im thinking thats because shes still only 7 months old. She will pee on our bed in spite sometimes or even our couch.
It will certainly keep you sane…. LOL
It’s just that it worked with another member, i guess each bunny is different and certainly she’s going through adolescence…. It will get better.
You can try letting her out under supervision and if you catch her wee’ing, just take her gently and put her back in the cage.
Are you able to completely clean the area that shes wee’d in? If she can still smell the odor she will think that’s where she should go (even if she shouldn’t)
We shall see how it goes. I have faith in her. She has to realise shes not the queen lol.

The bed and couch are favorites for many bunnies to pee on. I would keep her off of those soft comfy furniture items. Even though I have faith that she will become fully litter trained, bunnies like to pee on soft things. The bed and couch may have to be off limits. Some people put litter boxes on the couch. I don’t allow my rabbits on the couch or bed. One of them likes to pee on the soft vet fleece bedding, another likes to pee on the soft plush cat bed. Even though they are litter box trained. So… no way I’m allowing them on the couch or bed – ever. I would recommend the same for you. St least while you are trying to correct her litter habits.
I think keeping her in the hutch while you are at work/asleep is a good idea for litter training. I don’t have cages/hutches for my bunnies, but I started their indoor litter training by keeping them in a 4×4 area of X-pen. Gradually I expanded it, until each pair has half of the rabbit room. For their free roam, there is a litter box in EVERY room that they have access to. For the one female who still pees in front of the litter box, I just put them on pee pads, and that protects the floor. I have come to accept that this one female will always periodically pee in front of the litterbox. She isn’t perfect. The others have great litter box habits. I know it is frustrating. Be patient. It might take some time.
