HELP!

[MrBun&Daisy]

Okay guys, I’m in a little bit of a panic here. The floor of MrBun and Daisy’s condo is plywood covered with peel and stick tile. MrBun never even thought of chewing it but daisy is a destructo bun and the moment she realized she could pull it up she went at it! and of course with her pulling up corners and strips MrBun couldn’t help but join in. Now it doesn’t appear they are deliberately eating it as they just leave the pieces they rip up but I’m worried if they ingest some even accidentally a small amount it could harm them. They have plenty of blankets covering the floor but they just push them aside to get to the tiles. Does anybody have any ideas for a new flooring? I don’t want to pull up the tiles and just leave the bare plywood since it’s not the comfy-est and I’m sure they’ll have a ball chewing that as well. They have plenty of chewers but of course they like the tile better. I’m just worried if they eat some it will cause a blockage or other problems.

An idea, Next time, secure the blankets with binder clips or some sort of clip over some plastic sheet, and use ductape to secure. Or something like that. If you afe worried they have ingested some, I would go see the vet. Sounds like they had quite a chew. We dont want a blockage!

The plywood should actually be perfectly suitable as long as it’s smooth (no splinters!) and a bunny safe wood (pine is the most common). You can keep it covered with blankets for comfort.
Many people have sucess with using linoleum, corrugated plastic, or melamine for bunny cage bases. I find many materials work for bunnies who chew as long as they are held taut and the temping edges are out of reach.

Yes, you could use lino flooring, a whole piece cut to fit the size of the cage, then you could glue or nail down some timber capping along the corners so that they can’t pull it up from there.

thanks for you ideas guys! We went with ben’s idea of securing the blankets. We used hooks on the outside of the doors and loops on the blankets. This way we can still take the blankets out easily to be washed and such but they are secure over the edges of the tiles. We did have to 2 more blankets just to be safe with the coverage. So they still have blankets that aren’t attached to throw around but now the floor is essentially all blanket. We did this last night (a run to the store and lots of work from mom and dad) and they didn’t seem to mess with it. I will be keeping an eye on them both for the next few days to make sure their tummies are still flowing smoothly but I don’t think the have eaten much of the tiles at all. they would just pull some up and leave the chunk there for mom to pick up. We never had to do much bun proofing other than cords with MrBun (he’s mom’s well mannered bun!) but daisy seems to find anything and everything and of course gets MrBun to join her.

We do have extra plywood from when we built their condo so if they (really just daisy) decide to work extra hard and still manage to get the blankets up then we will just have to replace the flooring all together.
