okay so my bunny was playing in the backyard. (i no i have learned my lesson not to put in backyard) and my dog saw bunny, and chased her, (my dog never eats real things, so she just ran beside it), and my bunny darted down my yard. i picked her up and cuddled her, then noticed i had blood on my hand. i lookeds at babs, and her front thumb nail was completley gone. i washed it and stuff, then i noticed HER TOE WAS BENT THE WRONG WAY!!!!!!!! it went straight but turned a dramatic right. i dont know if it was like her toe nail, really deep in her skin, but i noticed her skin is purple on the toe, and the rest of her skin is pink. (i know i cant do this) but i bent her toe back to the right position, and it likes clicks back to place. i can unclick it, (only did it once to show dad) I REALLY AM SCARED my dad says she will be fine and she doesnt need to see vet but im really scared. she doesnt seem to mind when i touch it though, but please help.

i will never let her run in the back yard with my dog or in the back yard, ever.   :’C

Oh dear, I think a trip to the vet is warranted. You want to make sure if something was broken that it is set right. A toenail getting pulled out does happen and you need to watch for blood loss but the purple color does not sound right. Has the toe stopped bleeding?  If not you can try some plain corn starch. Leave the toe be and I really hope that you can take your bunny to the vet. I am so sorry this has happened, there are so many dangers for a bunny outside.

If it were any of my bunnies I would definitely take it to the vet right away. Make sure to keep a close eye on the toe, and if it looks at all like it is getting worse – you’ll really need to make your dad take you and the bunny to the vet. Has the bleeding stopped now? Bunnies can often take a long time to stop bleeding, and you don’t want her to lose a lot of blood. Also, make sure that she is eating and pooping, in addition to being injured, the dog probably scared your bunny, and the combination of the two can be dangerous. If your bunny is not eating she could be going into stasis, in which case it is an emergency and you must get your bunny to the vet immediately because stasis can be fatal in as short as 24 hours.

I’m sorry to hear this has happened.

Taking her to the vet is a wise option and they can also look at her eyes. Since your parents allowed you to have the bunny in the first place then they should be responsible enough to take your bunny to the vet when it needs attention. Good luck, I hope your bunny is ok!

Owning a pet of any kind is a big responsibility; one of the things your parents should be aware of is if anything happens to your pet just like if something happened to one of your family members you have to seek help from a Doctor.

Lisa 43 i can only repeat what you have said. A trip to the vet is a must. It isn’t like a child grazing it’s knee, screaming their head off until mummy kisses it better after a good strong dab of TCP. I hope your poor bun is ok!!!! Do you have a 24 hour emergency vets? Just a thought, as rabbits have a tendency to go into shock. Hope all is well. 🙂

To stress how important a vet trip is, this is how my friend’s bunny DIED.

She ripped off her toenail and her parents wouldn’t allow us to take her to the vet. And she didn’t die because she was bleeding. She died after the bleeding stopped. She went into shock, had a seizure, and broke her neck.

Get that bunny to the vet NOW. Let your dad see this thread and maybe he’ll realize how big of a deal it is.

I hope your bunny is okay. I believe with bunnies it’s MUCH better to be safe than sorry as far as vets are concerned. Rabbits can sometimes hide pain very well and they are so sensitive. Rabbits need vet care as much as cats and dogs and I wish more people would realize this. If you have a good rabbit vet in your area I would definitely go asap. Let us know how Babs is doing.

OK GOOD NEWS. i called a vet befor going, and it was a vet that specialized with rabbits and other non comment vet pets, and she said, their toes are like ours. we cant do much about them when they are broken, but to make sure she keeps eating and not to bandage it cuz it could cause other problems. she says she will be fine. so im happy.
