› Forum › THE LOUNGE › Hello – newbie from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
Hi everyone,
I just found this web site while searching for bunny sitting info ( thanks for the sitter guide pages).
I thought I’d put in & introduce myself & my bunnies, & maybe post a picture of them if I can figure out how. LOL
My story is:
I went to the store one day (Jan 2006) for cat food & was marked & adopted by a baby dwarf lop while there. I was immediately in love with the kissy little thing. Not knowing anything about bunnies, I behaved & left it there. I read everything I could find on the net about buns for 2 1/2 days. Then I went back & just beat some students interested in purchasing the bun that had adopted me on the previous visit. It was a dwarf lop with tortoise shell markings. I’m very greatfull that she decided to adopt me. She has been a wonderfull but slightly unusual introduction to bunnies. She is a very very kissy bun.
I thought she was a he & because my cats names were Bonnie & Clyde, I wanted a gangster type name. LOL I decided on Bugsy – after the Los Vegas mobster. She was spayed as soon as she was old enough. Bonnie cat adopted her so she has some confusion as to being a cat, a bunny, or a killer. Clyde snubbed her right from the start so she decided to beat him up several times a day, every day. These scraps never resulted in injury but they were scary to watch – spinning over one another like the tasmanian devil cartoons. I have a scar from separating them but that was the only blood shed. LOL She lost both her cat “mommy” & her arch enemy durning the tainted food crisis.
I didn’t want her to be lonely so, I adopted a male dwarf lop from a rescue lady soon afterwards. The lady brought 2 similar sized rabbits over & Bugsy got to pick which one she liked. LOL I had him neutered almost immediately. Buddy was 4 or 5 years old then (April 2007). His coloration reminds me of siamese cat, fawn body slightly darker face & feet. They have been best friends forever. There was no trouble with introductions, just the bit of humping to decide the boss bun. She won. LOL They have been doing the happily ever after thing ever since. LOL He’s a nibbly bun & he loves the dog – runs right under her chest every chance he gets.
This year I adopted a 3 year old, already neutered white with red eyes rex rabbit. I was not impressed with the person so I consider him a rescue bun. The guy told me that Thumper is the best & wasn’t kidding. Thumper is another kissy bun. He is very sweet & I didn’t want him to be lonely. I thought it might be hard to get him bonded to the other already bonded pair. I aso didn’t want troulble with Buddy thinking he was trying to steal his girl friend so:
A month later I adopted a female lop. Peek-A-Boo is 2.5 years old & the same size as Thumper. So far she is winning the humping for boss wars. She was a kissy bunny with her previous person ( a very nice lady who was crying watching her leave). She is jet black & very well litter behaved. She is not the lap bunny that the other 3 are, yet, she may never be & that’s OK. I have yet to get kisses but she runs over for pats & to see if I have anything good to eat. LOL
OK, I guess the pictures didn’t work.
I’ll wait to see if they need approval or something before I try again.

Peek-A-Boo
Bugsy & Buddy
Welcome! Your bunnies are so lucky to have such a great owner and what cuties.
I have a red eyed white rex like Thumper as well and her name is Emmy (she’s a standard not a mini though).
Seems too like you were meant to have rabbits as well as you just have fell naturally into bonding and you knew about spaying and neutering! And it’s great that you were not impulsive and educated yourself too before you beat those college students to adoption which was lucky for her.
Welcome glad to have you. Your black rabbit is really really black. I bet the rex and the black one look good together such contrasting colors.
Your brown and grey is a blue tort color in case you didn’t know. Sure are a lovely bunch. What a calico colored bunny.
So the bunny just picked you right out eh? I love it when that happens. We love pics and bunny stories
Any questions just feel free to post. You have become very well educated on bunnies. Thats great.
Thanks for the complments. I didn’t know that Buddy’s colors are called a blue tort, thank for the info.
Busgy’s not a calico (unless it’s different in from the cat term) as she has no white on her. Well the very bottom of her feet are almost white & the fluffy undercoat that she sheds is white so maybe she is a calico. LOL I’ve been calling her a tortoise shell.
Only Bugsy & Buddy are dwarfs or minis (whichever?). They weigh about 3.5 pounds each. The rescue lady who brought Buddy to me said he’s a pure breed. She said Bugsy is not. She doesn’t have a flat enough face, she said. I don’t care. I just love them.
Thumper & Peeka are both standard size, I think. They weigh about 6 pounds each, I think. Thumper is suppose to be a pure rex. He is soooo soft. I have no idea if Peeka is a mix or pure & it doesn’t matter as long as everybody is healthy & happy. Thumper & Peeka don’t live together yet.
I’m taking it slow. oH & yes, Peeka is very black. Busgy & Buddy both have lighter fur on the bottom of their feet but Peekas feet are not even a wee bit lighter.
They all love their papaya enzyme & think I’m giving them a treat. LOL Their favorite treat is a wee bit of banana. I’m feeding them limited quantiies of Bunny Basics Pellets. Bugsy & Buddy both get poopy butts (can I say that) with a lower fiber pellet & that’s about the highest fiber one that I could find. It seems to be helping a lot. If anyone has suggestions on a better pellet I’m willing to hear them. I’m pretty fussy when it comes to pet food after that whole China thing. I try & use the best possible foods with the least possible chemicals.
I havre just got a small square bale of last years 1st cut horse hay for them. They love it & the farmer didn’t even charge me. Lots of nice seed heads on it too. I guess I’ll find out how long 50 or 60 pounds (guessing – I didn’t weight it I can barely move it) of hay last 4 bunnies. LOL
I’m glad they like it because the pet store stuff looks so much like straw that I didn’t like using it.
Welcome! Thanks for introducing us to your crew. Sounds as if you got swept away by bunny love too. They’re a cute bunch !
By Bunny Basics – if your referring to Oxbow Bunny Basics T pellets, then that is probably the best there is. Something like 28 % fibre. If it’s working for their poopy butt, then you’re onto a winner. (Yes you can say “poopy butt” LOL! It has been mentioned around here a few hundred times )
Welcome!
What a great family.
Yep, Bunny Basics T is excellent. There are also a few websites that have high caliber hays to choose from if you prefer to order food and supplies. BinkyBunny can’t use the forum to advertise, but I have to say that the members who use her products rave about them, so it’s one place to check out.
Beautiful buns! Bugsy is actually a harlequin in color and Buddy is a black tortoise shell (bunny torts don’t look at all like kitty torts; they’re brown with black shading on their tummies and noses). I love harlequin lop bunnies! Buddy and Bugsy do look like Holland Lops, but I think you’re right that Bugsy is a mix because I don’t think harlequin is a recognized color for holland lops. And your black bun Peek-a-boo looks like a mini lop.

I learn something new everyday. LOL I thought a harlequin was spotted. LOL
Thanks for the Bunny Basics confermation. It was the best one I could find although I’m not thrilled with their vitamin K choice.
This is the cage that I built for Bugsy when she was a wee baby. Nobody ever says I spoil pets.
She had to have a human elevator to get in & out of it. She also had ramps then but they just jump now.

A year later she let Buddy move in. LOL He was blocked off in the bottom 2 floors only at first. Then blocked off in the outer run only while his neutering healed. They’ve been living together ever since.
I’ve now got them confined to the top 2 floors & Thumper, the rex is living on the second floor. I added ¬her single cube section so that his litter box sticks out rather than letting fumes be trapped in the cage. I hope that made sense, my camera is acting up so I can’t take a picture. I’m soon going to move Peeka into the bottom floor but I have to add another cube for her litterbox to jut out as well. She is still living in another room for the moment. Quarentined for the first 3 weeks & now she’s onto the introduction to Thumper stage. She chases him around & humps his back & as he still runs away most of the time I’m trying to go slow. I don’t want any grudges or anything. I was so lucky with Bugsy & Buddy, I propbably was too quick with them but, they were fine. I don’t want to push my luck though, after reading so much about how sometimes they can get along & them decide to scrap.
I’m going to get rid of a living room chair & make Thumper & Peeka their own cage soon. I’m hoping that they will eventually be able to share the play area. I’d like to be able to go back to just having the door open to the play area but I’ll have to see if they will all get along.
Edit to add: I guess I’ll have to learn more about quoting here. That didn’t do what I was expecting. LOL
Hahaha, love the picture of the “human elevator”.
My fiance always calls harlequins “tiger bunnies”, so that’s how I think of them. They really do look just like tortoise shell cats, so it’s kind of confusing. I saw a harlequin lop on Craigslist a few weeks ago and was sooo tempted to get her!
Looking at Peeka again, she looks more like a holland lop than a mini, but at 6lbs she’s the right weight for a mini. She does seem to have the flat holland lop face though, so I dunno! She is cute though 🙂 I love lop bunnies.
The elevator! So cute! Did you do the announcements? “Going down. 1st floor – homewares and delicatessen”
welcome neighbour! i’m from waterloo very cute bunnies! thumper looks very similar to my pinky. she’s a rew too… but a new zealand white. i also love the ‘human elevator’ that you installed for your buns before they could navigate the levels. haha. you are a definite bunny slave like the rest of us
Actually, I never thought of using an elevator as an option for rabbits who don’t like to be picked up. Although I think I’d be afraid of them leaping out of it when they shouldn’t but still a very cool idea!
We only did the elevator from the second floor so it was only a 14 inch drop. It wasn’t very long before I put the bin there as a step so she could come & go as she pleased. Bugsy likes to be picked up, she’ll run over & stand up against your leg asking to be picked up. I used the elevator in the very begining though partly because I had read so much about them not liking to picked up. LOL
“bunny slave”, yep, LOL, spent 4 hours last night reading bunny cookie recepies. Waterloo eh, maybe we should have a Binky Party. LOL
“announcements”, now that would have been video worthy. Why didn’t I think of that?
“tiger bunnies”, she has a personality that matches that term very well, she’s not afraid of anything. I think she is a pitbull cross. LOL Charges & beats any animal that hasn’t decided to be her personal grooming slave. Really, not kidding. She is all kissy with me though. Sometimes she will rattle her cage wanting me to put my nose in for a cleaning. LOL
I’m a little late on this, but welcome to BB! Looks like you’ve been posting like crazy!
I really loved your little stories, you’re very funny! Hope to see you around more
well, if digx was late — what am I?
anyways, welcome!! I had already replied to you in another thread and realized after that you must be new here!
–the elevator can be a great help. I have one bun who resents being held or picked up seriously. Because of him, I use a ‘rabbit shuttle’.
I like your condo with pen. Very nice and tidy.
