i just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself and my rabbit.
my name is mandy, i’m a vet tech at an animal hospital that treats cat/dog as well as many different exotic species. i have an 8 year old daughter and 3 chihuahua’s, and our new addition bunny which i just adopted 3 days ago. the other night one of the girls i work with (who also works with the spca) brought in 2 rabbits for our exotics manager to take and adopt out (she works with the NJ house rabbit society.) well i work the overnight shift and a lot of the times i have sad things happen during my shift. and that night was no different. so after the sad experience (as i’ll call it) i went into exotics to do a few treatments (i had a lung cancer bun, a gi stasis bun, and a ferret that wasn’t eating/drinking.) well one of the spca rescue bunnies came running to the front of the cage and popped up on his hind legs and was watching me very intently. i’ve never been much of a bunny person, so i smiled at him and said aw your cute. and after 10 minutes of staring at me he stomped his back feet at me. i opened the cage figuring ok ok he wants attention. well he was SO friendly! he chin rubbed me and while i was petting him he layed on his side and was just so adorable. i don’t know what came over me! i left a note on his cage saying if he wasn’t already spoken for then i wanted him! i got a phone call the next afternoon saying he’s mine and i can take him home with me next time i came in to work. my daughter has wanted a bunny for awhile now (she just turned 8.) so she’s super happy that he’s here. i gave her the liberty of naming him, we are calling him iorek (after the polar bear from the golden compass lol, hey that’s what happens when you let your 8 year old pick the name.) i had rabbits growing up and at my job we take care of a lot of rabbits so i’m not really new to bunny world. however, i must say things are a lot different than when i was a kid, and a healthy rabbit is a huge difference from the sick ones i see at work. iorek does some pretty funny things! i don’t know much about him really. he has an appointment with the exotics dr on the 24th so we’ll discuss age and i want to get him neutered asap. i have some questions about his behavior and cage (he’s living in the cage i had made for my hedgehog when she was alive and it’s roomy enough but i’d like bigger.) i’m going to go browse the site and see all i can find
looking forward to getting to know all about you and your buns too!
here’s some pics of iorek and my daughter
