Personally I don’t do pet insurance anymore because with four rabbits and my cat it would be over 300 per month and I know that I’m not spending 3600 per year on vet bills normally. I know an emergency can wrack up a huge bill though. The one time I had something go wrong with my cat it wasn’t covered. I think the options in the UK are better, because the US option also doesn’t cover dental issues for rabbits, which is a common issue and one of the things that did cost a lot in vet bills with Moose.
I have enough credit that I mentally keep track of how much I would have paid in insurance over the years and don’t feel bad about putting big vet bills on my credit card if something huge happens. Before I had a decent amount of credit (like when I first got my cat) I did think it was really important to have insurance though! I also think with dogs it’s really important to have insurance because they are ALWAYS getting into trouble!
This is a long-winded way of saying make sure to look carefully at what is covered and what’s not when deciding whether it’s worth it for you.
