This morning Coco did not appear for her morning meal @ 8 a.m.
At 10:30, when she still had not poked out, I found her under the bed – did not like her state of being. She was not moving much, and I couldn’t tempt her with greens. I did a gut massage which she did not resist. That was, frankly, the most shocking thing. Her utter willingness to be flipped over in trance position and massaged. I did not hear gurgles, nor feel any obvious blockages.
I also noticed her lips looked blue tinged.
I called the vet, and drove her in, where they took her and put her in the warmer, as her temp was low, 35C.
The vet inserted a catheter to start flushing her belly. They suspect a bacterial infection in her stomach, but can’t determine which one yet. Clostridium? was mentioned, but given what I have read, it seems unlikely. She is pellet free, gets fresh greens 2ce a day and local Hay, her environment is cleaned regularly and she has not had any stress related issues.
The vet was most concerned about her low temp and was very honest that it was about a 70% chance that we would lose Coco, despite her best efforts. I Ok’ed the procedures and came home.
Honestly, the vet is the best one in town, and she couldn’t be in better hands. That didn’t stop me from crying in the waiting room. I did request that if she does die, I want her body so that Jackson can say goodbye to her.
