I’m going to just insert my post that I posted in the rescue group I’m apart of, don’t mind any errors I was and still am shocked. I’m going to insert my main concerns below it.

Sev (my rabbit)  just ran full force into her x pen . Her head got stuck and she curled up into a ball (like shrimp) with her head up and her legs going towards it. I ran and helped to get her out. I obviously did no try to pull her head without checking where the bars were on the side of her head. One bar was literally on her eye (I can’t tell u where exactly this was a quick check) and then the other size was caught on her jaw. I pulled her cage bars apart tried to see if I could maneuver her head out, did that again, until my adrenaline kicked in. Got the bars far apart enough to where I can get her head out. Scariest thing ever for me and now I just wonder if she is hurt? What should I check for? Of course after I held her close to me and had my little episode and then petted her for quite a while. The behavior right now is different than normal (she’s usually sassy, won’t let me hold her long, or pet her to long without her moving when she hears a noise). I can say this tho that this behavior could be out of shock, but is there a way to figure out if behavior is shock or pain? I’m just worried cause she is a big girl and can get some serious speed and I don’t want there to be any injuries that are not visible by the eye. Also what should I look for in her eye to see if there is damage?? I’m like in shock and really want to take her to the vet if anyone thinks I should. I’m really worried about the impact and her eye! This week is my not a good pet week for me, my fish got ich and now this.

****Severus is a big girl, 9ish pounds, super strong. So strong I can not psychically hold her down for oral meds even with the taco roll. My vet needs at least 3 people to hold her down for them. I’m saying this because since she is so big, she probably has a stronger run. She ran into her xpen, I think something scared her. She is very all over the place. I’m not sure why she got so scared that she ran so fast b/c that never happens but it did. ANYWAYS, knowing how strong she is, should I be worried about there being any injuries that I cannot see with my eye. If so is there a way to check for them or symptoms to look for??

*****The two bars she was stuck between were placed in strange ways. One was behind her right jaw, the other on her eye. The eye part scares me. What should I look for to see if her eye got injured?

*****With everything, should I take her to vet or in other words what signs should result in my taking her to the vet??

I know she is shock, I am too. This was very very scary for me, I can only imagine how scary it was for her. Idk is she could breathe or not because I really focused on getting her out. If i checked to see if she was breathing, it would of added time she was stuck. She was stuck for less than 30 seconds I would think. It felt so long. But it took some time because I simply wasn’t strong enough at first to get it out.

Long story I know, I’m just so freaked out. I’m going to have to push the bars back together. So she doesnt accidentally just push her head in it since now it is so far apart she could just stick her head in easily and not be able to get it out.

Her eye that was hurt ( I know i blinded her, sorry sev ). the black in her eye is visible by eye which is why i took this picture. I also notice a small cloudy patch. kinda looks like glaucoma its maybe a size of a half grain of rice.

I can’t say if the eye looks injured. If there’s no obvious blood etc, signs of injury would be redness, weepiness, swelling, but all those inflammatory signs take a little while to develop. Will she take a treat if offered one?

Later the x-pen could perhaps be fixed up with some couble chicken wire or welded 1/2 inch netting so there’s no way she could push through even with lots of impact.

I luckily pushed it together. I swear it was so much harder to push it apart. Literally my knuckles has red marks that hurt so bad from it. So the black in her is okay? Or not to worry about? If you know Sev (my bun) she will take any treat or veggies any time with any pain unless she gets a stomach problem. With her getting spayed she ate so they let me take her home, but then later she stopped. Then with the gi stasis (saw only one kidney in xray) problem, she stopped eating as much. force feedings with her are literally HORRIBLE. maybe she learned that if she ate she wouldnt get them?? I have gotten so many bruises from her biting me and so on.. my vet gave my injections but then (i forget the name of it, its in a previous post) she got the multiple skin patches from them (not my fault either).

also, she probably really wanted the treats tonight because i recently cut back (tbh my mom would come in and do it so I stopped and am trying to get her to stop for the health of the) so now i do not give them treats at all really ( i slip sometimes ) b/c my mom is also doing so. (treats are usually a mixture of veggies with fruit or whatever mixture. This problem was finally understood by my mom so i think she no cut it off (from what i can tell). so the change in her treats could affect that. I hope that made sense lol. my mom literally is the grandma to my buns (aka children) and spoils them way to much

for some reason, im super weird bout diagnosing pain or what not with her eating habits in particular. my other buns eating habit are so different. Sev (the one who put her head in the pen) eats her veggies so fast you would think she never got fed in her before while my other bun houdini paces it and sometimes doesnt finish his.

i do know if any long lasting (6 hours or no more than 12 hours) goes without her eating i will take her. I do say 6 hours cause that is simply not her behavior and she did just get her head stuck in her xpen.

her legs are stronger than my arms, for a fact (literally stronger then 2 vets togethers arms, who are in shape). she bolted with those strong legs right in between the bars of the x pen. me getting the bars apart fo the x pen cause me swelling, redness, heat, and pain. I just cant wrap my head around that she is okay when me who is much weaker and pulled the bars apart and had knuckles that are red, swollen, and swollen. and for her she went head first landing the bar into her eye and jaw, being with no pain. I have a high pain tolerance, im fine. bit if i had the strength of her and was the size of her, i dont think i would be. (again, im stressed and thinking of the worst maybe, but she is strong as crap, with her hind legs and that is how she launched into the cage, i watched her, i was actually treating my betta for ich at the time)

she is not exploring as much, i knew shut her xpen. i expect this tho again, hello im having a stress/panic attack over here still, imagine her!! Is there anything to do to help the stress?? I imagine that she has to be in a at least some pain, i just dont see how she couldnt, and for my so sassy and dominant female to curl up like a shrimp, heart breaking.

p.s. im a crazy rabbit owner, i get scared alot when unexpected thing happen. Im not a rush to the er type unless force eating/poops is a deal or other pain, so on) with my other bun i dealt wit a non eating behavior at home!!! two vets saw xrays and think she has 1 kidney. Each vet said they have never seen it before or never seen it before in a rabbit (many many years in practice too) and when she had the shot problem (as mentioned before its in another post). both vets said that its a 1 in 10,000 chance to have one (in dogs). she had 5 i think. so she is special. i will accept that i could be over reacting but Sev is something else and she usually does defy normal bun behavior when she is sick or whatever. I just hate the risks!! I think the main source of adreleine  that happened was sourced from her eye being stuck right where the bar was.  I have work in 3 hours . (thats how stressed i am) should i be okay with leaving her for a 8-9 hour day?? im so okay with calling off work if i need to.. i can come check on her on my lunch which is 3 hours from now plus 4 so 7 hours from now.

I really hope i make sense, im so extra with her. She has had such bad things come up, i cant help it!!

Thanks!!!!! “so the black in her” means the speck in her eye that wasnt there before, im sleep deprived. mind my spelling and words. my baby scared me so much (at a late time as well) i doubt ill even sleep at all tonight since i have work in 2 hours and my heart is still racing. (even though i know that she is not needing asap vet care from the knowledge ive received, the incident . is cuddles with a stressed rabbit a good enough work excuse for work lol

The black in her eye doesn’t really look like it’s caused by this incident, are you sure it wasn’t there before?

A really shocked rabbit won’t eat. And if she eats while she’s in some sort of chock, it’s great because eating keeps the gut moving, and that’s the big risk with a bun getting a chock, the gut can shut down (GI stasis). So give her food. It’s great to have a bun that loves food, because if a food-crazy bun refuses a treat (or piece of vegg, or pellets – anything), you know sth really serious is up.

I’m sorry you have to go to work, it’s never fun to leave a bun you’re not 100% about. Can your mum look in on her during your workday?

Thank you!! I really am not sure if the black was in her eye before. It is like in the deeper part of her eye. The cloudy mark is on the surface. It almost looks like a piece of her eye color (idk the science name) got ripped off and it just chilling in front of her pupil. (not saying it is this, im just saying what it looks like) Today she has a little more eye boogies in that one eye. She is acting somewhat normal, she is begging from a little bit more attention from me than normal (im defiantly ok with that). The rescue group members all are saying to take her the vet asap. I’m torn about it, being asap because of work but if shes suffering and just hiding it then i will. I was late to work (oops) so I saw her when I woke up around 8ish , my mom left for work and checker her out around 10, im now on my lunch break 12:30-1:30 , and i get off at 6:45 so no one is able to check on her between those times .

UPDATE: I took her to the ER vet (only place open when I’m not working and her symptoms personally werent call off of work severe). They have a exotic pet specialist on call that could come in if needed. A woman checked her out (pretty sure she is an assistant) and said that she saw nothing really to worry about. She did call the exotic pet specialist and told her everything and what she saw from Sev. The conclusion was that it is in my best interest to just take her home and if she starts acting strange to bring her back. Sev was literally hopping around the room, which she wasnt doing so much as home but I think its cause she knew that her xpen hurt her. Having the exotic pet specialist would cost me a lot and the exotic pet specialist when on the phone with the woman who checked Sev out agreed it wasn’t worth it. Anyways, I did as they suggested. Sev is fine!! On top of that, me taking her to the animal ER didn’t cost me a penny since she didnt see a vet, just went through the basic “diagnosing”. I’m happy I brought her tho b/c it gave me a peace of mind leaving her the next day for work!! I didnt ask for pain meds or anything b/c of her necrosis (injections) and the fact she is has refused oral meds to the points she gives me bruises and pulls out her hair.
