  My male and female (both nutered/spayed) just sit head to head in the bathtub during bonding. They occasionally nip at each other but its very intense! Today the female even closed her eyes for a very long while. all this is very confusing!! How long will this go on?

  …until one gives in and grooms. You can help it along by imitating grooms on both of them simultaneously with your fingers.
