        Hi,

So I just wanted some advice and if this is normal of something I should get checked out? I got my bunny a week ago when she was 8 weeks old. A few days ago I noticed shes been scratching her ears and shaking her head a bit. I wouldn’t say its excessive but it’s enough that I’ve picked up on it and wondering if this is normal? She doesn’t seem to be in pain in any way and is binkying around and licking me as usual, theres a little tooth grinding/clicking but since she seems so happy I thought it just meant she was happy?

Earlier she did hop into her cage and dart around a bit but again, it’s hard to tell if that’s just her playing/being excited or if it was a reaction to pain.

I know this could be a symptom of ear mites and as the person I got her of kept them outside in a shed it could be possible? Any other symptoms I should look out for? She wont stand still long enough for me to get a look in her ears but I doubt I’d be able to see anything anyway

As I said just looking for some advice and I do plan to take her to the vet soon anyway since she hasnt been yet since being with me.

        Thanks guys!

I was worried about the same thing when I got my rabbit, with the occasional ear scratching. Turns out, she is perfectly healthy Some bunnies are just a bit itchy, but mites are something you want to look out for. The major symptom of ear mites other than scratching are crusts in the ears. If you do get a chance, glance in her ear to see if she has any crusts or scabs in there. A healthy ear should be light pink and smooth.

Is she a lop bunny? Lops are also more prone to ear infections since the ear canal is closed. But again, since there are no other symptoms it could very well be that she is just scratching a benign itch Often when a hair gets in their ears they will shake their heads a scratch to get it out.

And congrats on your new bunny! She sounds charming!
