I’ve noticed something about Zeus’s water intake.  If I DON’T change his water twice a day and give him fresh water.. he drinks more!  If he has fresh water available to him, he drinks LESS! .

I’m not quite sure what to do.  I hate to just NOT change his water, but if he’s drinking more of the stale stuff.. I guess that’s good?  Any idea why he’d avoid fresh water?!  Weird bun!

Perhaps it’s just a matter of coincidence. I would continue to change his water so it is fresh.

I’m changing it daily anyways, but my typical routine was changing it twice daily.  I’ve noticed if I forget to change it in the morning, he definitely drinks more.

Wonder if he prefers it to be less cold.

Maybe I’ll try twice a day with tepid water?  Good idea.

Is it tap water? He may not like the fresh chemical taste alot of tap waters have, like the chlorine sometimes used in it. Leaving tap water out will help the chemicals disperse, so maybe thats what he waits for

Yup it’s tap.  Maybe that’s it then, too!

I was also thinking Monkey’s theory about tap water.  You could always use a filter- either pitcher or on faucet.  Or you could try filling a clean container- leaving it out overnight with the cap off (I think oxygen needs to get to it) and let the chemicals dissapate and then keep the container in the refrig to keep it fresh.

You could try offering filtered water vs “stale” water and see his preference.

The first thing that came to mind when I read your post was the water temp, so I think Sarita is on to something. My bunnies are also happier with tepid water. Rucy was in particular the pickiest of all about that. She loved to drink water (it probably helped soothe her ongoing tooth issues) but if it was cold, I noticed she wouldn’t drink it right away, so I decided to serve it only slightly cool or luke warm and she’d drink it right up.

Oh, and I also use filtered water. A couple of years ago we had a discussion about that and members in that thread had noted that their bunnies drank more with filtered.

My first thought was also water temperature. I notice that right after filling the water, the buns don’t drink much, but within a few hours they start gulping it down.

I offered him tepid water last night when I changed it, and lo and behold, he drank the “fresh” tepid water just like he was drinking the stale water.  I was offering him nice cold water because I thought he’d prefer that (I know I do!), but I guess he doesn’t like to real cold!  Mystery solved!
