For the floor of Nimmy’s cage for the past 3-4 months I’ve had a plastic liner, it’s one of those things you put in a cabinet or a shelf so things don’t slide all over the place. It was working wonders. Until last night while I was sleeping Nimmy somehow and for some reason decided to tear it to shreds. I salvaged what I could in the morning (to protect the wood from getting wet) and went to the store to buy another.
This time I decided to get a plastic table protector since it’s bigger I get more use out of it and I felt like it’d be better at preventing things from leaking through. I also decided to finally put a fleece blanket over top because I’ve seen so many successful cages with that. Went to work, came back around 6 hours later, he managed to lift the blanket (even though I pinned it down) and had chewed up the plastic liner. His water bottle leaked and the wood got wet
Tried to fix it up and position things in certain places to weigh down the blanket so he couldn’t dig it up. Didn’t work. So right now I took all that out, put what I had salvaged from the old flooring back in and now I’m pretty lost. I don’t know what to do for flooring, which I feel like is the major problem with DIY cages.
Help! Do you guys think I should stick with the fleece blanket/table cover and he’ll eventually get used to it? Or do you have some other tips?? I really don’t want to put down those laminate tiles, I want something that I can remove and clean easily. And something affordable. I’m a VERY BROKE college student right now.
