ok, last nite, i flipped the boys over to checked their private area to make sure it was healing well after their neuter on thursday and i like to check it almost everyday. it was slast checked on saterday and this is just cause when the stitches come out, they are used to getting flipped and to have their claws cut and whatnot. but anyway, i flipped atticus, the flemmie cross and he was cool as he was on saterday to have me look at the incesion. then i flipped lunar over and he lost it. he was kicking and being a brat so i hugged him to clam him down and once he did i tried to look at it again and this time he grabbed my sweater but since he got no skin he kept trying to bite deeper til he got skin, i managed to get him in a position where he couldnt bite me. then he squirmed while i was checking the incesion and he did it again but this time he got skin.
he didnt act like this at all on saterday and since getting neutered hes become a bit of an ass….im sorry to say that but he is becoming a realy jerk! i thought they were suppossed to get better since getting fixed???
help! is this normal for him to act like this? the two of them are still getting along amazingly well and the humping has stopped (lunar used to hump atticus)![]()
hormones can act up after being neutered, it’s normal for many bunnies as the hormones leave their systems.
For future stitch checking, I suggest holding up a favorite food or treat for them to stretch up to get, and peek at their bellies while they are up on their hind feet. Much easier on all parties involved.
OMG I AM BEYOND UPSET AND ANGRY RIGHT NOW!. iknow this mite sound dumb but i was just cutting lunar’s fromnt feet nails and he kept bitting me! he has never bit me before! now he is doing it every chance he got. and i didnt flip him over. i just held him against my chect with his belly facing my chest, like youd hold a baby and id clip a nail and he would try to and succeed in bitting me. how do i dicipline him for bitting cause i CANNOT and WILL NOT have a pet that bites!!!! my dog isnt allowed nor is my cat. why is he bitting me all of a suddon…after getting him neutered?!?!?!?
i just did atticus’ nails and he didnt even try to bite me once and has never bitten me or attempted too. lunar has bitten me like 7-10 times in the last 2 days alone! and yesterday is the first time he bit me.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I am having the EXACT SAME issue with my bun. I got him neutered June 1st and since then, he’s bitten me a number of times. He never did before the neuter, and now I’m worried he’s just going to keep on biting even after the hormones calm down… ![]()
I’ll love him either way, but I know what you mean about not wanting to have a pet that bites. ![]()
The can get worse directly after neuter. Hormones all out of whack. I would be handling him less right now. He’s just been in and had the big op so he’s probably a bit wary of humans right now. Biting is his defense. Watch for pain or discomfort too and aggression can be a sign that something is amiss. I think he just needs more time to settle. Monkeys trick to check on him is a good one but for him and your own skin, less hands on is good for now.
Merbella, it still might be early days for your rabbit also. If Edmund is coming up to bite you though, push his head down briefly to let him know it’s not on.
Yeah, definitely leave nail trims til he calms down. He may be tender down there, and holding him is likely uncomfortable for the little man. Let him heal and settle, and his hormones will fade. ![]()
His hormones are still settling. Karl changed personality right after the neuter as well. He was a real pain to put it mildly. It went on for about 3-4 weeks, I think, and then he went back to being sweet and wellbehaved again.
So, don’t worry. It will get better. I would show my disapproval by thumping loudly.
Perhaps though he is a bit sore around his wounds, and getting neutered wasn’t exactly the best experience for him, so he is on his guards these days. Not only was he brought to a strange scary place, but someone drugged him making him feel strange, and when he woke up, he was in pain and still feeling wuzzy. So, give it time for him to calm down again and trust you – who brought him to that mean, mean vet – and have his hormones settle.
thank you for the insight on this. i am glad im not the only one dealing with a vicious rabbit. i am also glad it is only lunar that has turned to biting. atticus hasnt even tried to bite so that is good.
i hope this doesnt keep up and he stops after his body gets sorted out. thank goodness i get them neutered at 3 and 4 months old!
He isn’t vicious, he’s irritated and sore ![]()
Biting is not always a sign of a vicious rabbit. Monkeybun is right, he’s irritated and sore. Also biting can be a sign of fear.
You shouldn’t let things like this get you upset and angry. Some rabbits express themselves this way. You have to change your behaviors if you have a biter. My rabbit Pepe bites and he’s not vicious one little bit. I don’t like that he bites but I also know that I won’t get rid of him because of this and I have to change since I can and he may not.
Edmund bites (not hard but it’s still annoying) when I’m sitting down with him during “play time.” He’ll be exploring and sniffing my clothes and then he’ll just bite me… :/
It can’t be that he’s scared, irritated or sore under those circumstances. (It’s not like I was clipping his nails, for example.) Hopefully, this will pass. ![]()
I’d like to add a thought here and ask if any pain medications have been given for your bunnies? (Unlikely, since the boys take this op better than the girls, but maybe Lunar is in more pain than Atticus and if that’s the case, an infection could be settling in…might have the vet recheck him to be sure if you can?)
Otherwise, yeah, I can imagine how he’s not only sore, but probably a little put out that his ‘manly bits’ have been removed. He will settle eventually, please be patient with him. Consider what he’s been through. You’d feel uncomfortable too if you had to have a surgery and then suddenly it was time for a pedicure. 0_o

Baby bunnies especially like to taste test things. When Monkey was little, she’d give everythign a test nibble, toes, fingers, pants, baseboard, hair, the window, etc. Little Edmund may be doing the same thing, especially if it isn’t hard. To break him of it, make a high pitched squeak of pain and thump with your hand on the floor to startle him, letting him no it’s not an okay thing to do.
oh i understand when he is coming from and i would not get rid of him cause of his biting….even though i will admit i am not too happy bout it cause he bites holly crap hard! got me in the chest and removed a chunk of skin…. like a love bite gone bad! lol he is going to be checked on friday when they have their apointment. and see if he is doing good. he has also started attacking the cat that he used to play with so the cat is a wee bit confused. poor little guy. lol
i give them their space now and just make sure they are happy with food and water and what not.
I think the issue is more with your handling of them… flipping them over and trimming nails so soon after the neuters, than an issue with the bunnies. Leave them alone for awhile and let the hormones settle down.
