So Frankie got into cough drops somehow… he must have climbed my bed head and sniffed them out or something! Luckily they are not the heavy-duty kind… active ingredient is called Pectin. As far as I can tell he only ate one…e I’m force feeding him some stuff to try to flush it out of his system, but I’m worried!

I’ll let you guys know what happens

How many did he eat? I would just call the vet to confirm that this is not a problem if he ate more than one or animal poison control.

I swear as soon as I read the title of this thread I knew it was Frankie!! Maybe he’s like my friend’s dog who has a cast iron stomach. She ate two packages of rat poisoning (no one knows where she got it) and was perfectly fine. The vet was amazed!

                Anyway, hope Frankie is okay!!

Frankie does have an iron stomach for a rabbit, seriously. He gets into so much weird stuff that’s supposed to be out of his reach!

It seems like he’s ok. As far as I could tell he only ate one or two of the cough drops last night.

He ate his breakfast this morning but I haven’t noticed if he’s been going to the bathroom. Hopefully the iron stomach comes through as usual!

Frankie must have gotten the idea from Boston….she loves em’ paper and all!!!

Ours aren’t heavy duty either, and she turned out fine—no sore throat or anything!

About a year ago, a members rabbit got into cough drops and another member shared a story about how her house was broken into and the burgler let her rabbit out somehow-and her rabbit ate an entire roll of halls. Both rabbits were fine.
I think one of the only active ingredients is ‘menthol’ or ‘eucalyptus’ (sp?) anyways so aside from the sugar they’re probably fine

Of course keep an eye-which you’re doing I’m sure But I’m sure he’ll be fine

Between this and the chewing gum, my wager is he’s got a very strange sweet tooth. 0_o

K&K, a whole roll of Halls? UGH! *makes face* I can’t stand having one of those in my mouth for a few seconds, they are NASTY!

My Pepper was the one who ate half a bag of horehound throat drops after a burglar trashed my place.  She had a tummyache from all the sugar, but was fine.

Poor Pepper, she disapproved burglars but approved the mess that resulted in a gluttony of horehound goodness.

My bunnies really have a nose for sweets- so I can imagine that it did not take Pepper long to discover the drops.  At least bunnies are not as silly as dogs- at the vet clinic we get people calling all the time about dogs that eat Hershey kisses wrapper and all.  I am assuming both Frankie and Pepper took the time to unwrap their unauthorized “medications”.

Haha Katnipcrazy, my dog used to do that. Once she got into an entire bag of Hersey’s Kisses. Needless to say, I guess passing all that foil didn’t feel too good. She managed to get into them again, only this time she peeled all the foil off and finished off the chocolate… That dog managed to find everything!

Actually, she was already out, but when he yanked the DVD player out he knocked a bag of throat drops on to the floor.  Pepper the Explorer came across them at some point between then and when I got home, and apparently did a happy little dance with them.  The were scattered all over the hallway and she ate about half of the bag!  They didn’t have wrappers, though the sugars gave her a bit of a tummyache the next day.  I’m just grateful that she didnt’ come out while he was there and get kicked or something.

This is something that concerns me, whenever I have to leave home. What if someone breaks in and (in my climate) leaves the door open and the cats or bunnies escape? The survival factor would be nil. It would be demoralizing at the least.

That and a house fire. Whether I’m home or not a fire is something I don’t want to experience with three cats, three bunnies, two dogs and a fish to rescue besides my children. I don’t know how I’d do it, honestly…the thought is horrifying. I have the carriers easily accessible, but I still doubt we can all get out in time.
