How do you keep you hay for your bun?

My bunny eats lots of hay – which is fantastic! But I have to keep a huge container of it. So I use a small clean litter bin to put her hay in. Because when I gave it to her in a shoe box she would hop in.  (She was too big!)

However, She will pee in the hay. She is litter trained and wont pee anywhere else. I am bummed she is ruining her good hay.

What do you guys use? A rack? (The ones I see at the pet stores look too small, I can’t wake up at night and fill it!)

Thoes hay-roller are hard to use, hay is straight and the ball is round plus the opening is too small. (I used those for my chinchilla before)

HELP please, What do you do?

I use a cutlery drying rack from Ikea called “Bygel”.  You hang it on the side of the pen over the litter box and they pull the hay through the bars.  It is too tall and narrow for them to sit in it.  Can’t beat the price either, it is $2.99.

            “No-Waste” Hay Holder-Single Opening

            “No Waste” Hay

I use the double hay holder that Save A Bunny sells. They are awesome.  They also come in a triple.  They are not cheap but well worth every penny. Put a litter box in front of the hay holder and they sit there and pee/poop as they eat!!!!!!!! http://www.saveabunny.com

If you want something that holds a TON of hay (and I mean about 2 of those store bought ‘loafs’ of hay), I’d suggest the following from Save A Bunny:

This is a ‘no waste’ hay holder.  I have found this not only convient for holding a three day supply of hay for my two buns but it also has cut down on the mess by about 80% (except when they get it into themselves they WANT to redecorate the floor in early yard motif).  They come in 1, 2 and 3 hole opening sizes but if you want to stuff a lot of hay and forget about it, this is the thing for you.  I use the 2 hole and that lasts both my buns about half a week.

I made my own. It looks somewhat like the one Knowitons posted but not really.

right now i have hay in the litterboxes since we’re littertraining the newbie. previously i had one of those hay balls for Mead, but i popped off one half.  i’d love to get one of those hay holders, or build something similar…

Bunns almost always poop while they eat so we have the hay in their litterbox. We use the Rubbermaid under-the-bed totes as litterbins and it gives plenty of space for two bunns to hop in, do their business and munch on hay.

I use the same one as Osprey. The holes are big enough for the buns. The bottom tray minimizes hay waste.

My little ones have 2 hay baskets:

The main one is a wire basket I got at Target – similar to Osprays – they can eat hay out of the top oand pull hay through the bars.

They also have a little hay ball that has “treat” hay in it – right now it is Oxbow Botanical.

Those “no waste” containers are really cool – but isn’t making a big mess with the hay part of the fun?
