1.What does ‘good’ hay lookd like? I know it’s green, but what shade of green? Neon? Grass Colored? Could someone post a picture?

2.Anyone know what ‘bahia’ hay is? I saw some advertised in the newspaper and wondered what it was. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone here say anything about it…

        Thanks for the help!

Hi! Good hay is generally green – but sometimes my bunnies really like the more brown hay as well. I am wondering if the bahia hay is the same as coastal grass? I know that most of the feed stores around me sell the coastal hay as their main hay so I had some trouble finding other types. I was able to find timothy hay – and I think if you are in the boondocks of Texas, you can probably find even cheaper timothy than I can here in suburban dallas. I would try asking local feed stores if they carry timothy, and sometimes they will get some shipped in if you request it. The only problem I have had is I have to make sure to get good quality timothy – one bale that I got had all kinds of gross stuff in it, a ton of rocks, sticks, thistles and weeds, if you find all that in your hay – take it back and make them give you a better one.

Good quality hay should also be long and soft without much dust or other junk

            Like this looks Ok… http://hpbimg.deanforestrabbithaven.net/Timothy%20Hay.jpg

            But this looks great http://www.c-r-alpacas.com/images/Timothy%20Hay%20APD%201st%20%20Cut.jpg

Its color but it’s also texture and condition. Basically you want to limit or not feed alfalfa hay as it’s high in calcium and calories, and ensure you never feed moldy hay that looks like this… http://www.horseproblems.com.au/Photo’s/Veterinary%20Photos/Mouldy%20Hay%20close.jpg
