Gabby and Thumper are free range in over half the house. I have their two litter boxes in the back corner of the living room. I finally found a use for those too small guinea pig/rabbit cages from the pet stores. I use the bottom plastic pan as litter boxes. They’re big enough for them to get in and not fling litter everywhere.

I currently put their hay on one side of each litter box. Lately they’ve been strewing it and peeing on the hay too. I’m going through so much more hay now because of this. Does anyone have an idea for a hay holder for them since I don’t use a cage for them? Maybe something that could be put between their two litter boxes where they could eat in it like they do now but now walking and peeing on it.

It worked great. I only stopped using it because I wanted bigger litter pans.

What about a container that could be filled with hay and set in between the litter boxes?

Thanks for the ideas. I was at Big Lots today looking for bird toys and some plastic crates caught my eye. They look like the plastic milk crates but much smaller. They were under $2 each so I bought a couple to try. I put hay in them and put them in the corner of each litter box. I’m hoping they’re small enough Thumper won’t try to jump on it and sit. I’ll let you know how it works out.

This is what I got for Petie – works great but I imagine could only access one of your litter boxes, wouldn’t work so well between two? But it’s a great hay holder. The excess hay falls or gets pulled into the litterbox.

Balefulregard posted this pic (below) one time. Hay/litter set up using a cage bottom. Probably would have issue with them jumping into the hay though. Rabbits are funny like that. Peoples pic of their rabbits up in the hay racks always make me laugh.

Anyway, hopefully the baskets you’ve got will do the trick.

I always think it’s funny when I see rabbits sitting in the hay racks too. They knocked over one of the holders I put in the litter box’s corner. I had to clean both tonight so I put a little cheap rug down between them and wedged the plastic holders between the litter boxes. Thumper jumped right in while I was putting hay in the holder and he was eating it while sitting in the litter box like I wanted them to. *fingers crossed* they keep using it the way I intended.
