So we ran out of hay…yes I know, we are awful Bunny Slaves. Ran out Friday and went to get some Saturday, but the Animal Health Center closed at noon and was closed Sunday as well. So we gave some extra pellets and lots and lots of veggies over the weekend to compensate. Boston was lovin’ the extras….

Anways, the old hay was Oxbow and the new hay is not Oxbow. Boston highly disapproves of this. She looked at the pile of mediocre hay and her face said “Don’t you guys LOVE me anymore?” Then ran off and hid under the couch without even finishing her morning pellets! Dad told her to get a job and buy her own Oxbow…hmmm….anyone hiring bunny models?!

We can’t afford total oxbow so what we do is take some non oxbow and put it in and then put oxbow on top, and I guess it blends in enough and they eat the whole thing.  Although with ours it does not seem really about oxbow/not oxbow but more that they love the oxbow with the herbs in it.  So I guess the herbs fall through and mingle with all the other hay

Is that regular oxbow hay or a special blend you are referring to?

Just can’ t wait til nov to switch them to Oxbow pellets.  If I dont’ have enuf of their old pellets left I will buy a real small bag and mix it for 2 weeks getting them accustomed to Oxbow.

I remember feeding Oxbow once and oh they loved the pellets and smaller pieces too.  I had to spend hours on 3 buses to get to the petstore that sold Oxbow so I gave up on that.  Now Petsmart has it so I can get there easier.

haha Beka don’t temp her! I’m sure she’d love the bunny playmates!!!
I think she got hungry enough and decided to eat some hay. Although she’s not eating near as much.
I’ll probably order more Oxbow soon, I like to order a lot of stuff at once though, to save on shipping….so until then, the poor bun must suffer!!! LOL

I buy my hay in bales at a feed store, and I have found that if I get the “horse quality” hay (the cattle grade is not as good) – that my bunnies really enjoy it. The good thing about the feed store hay is that it is usually pretty fresh. I had to go to a few different stores to find hay that I really liked, but now I get a full bale for $32. In California, where I didn’t have as much space to store hay, I would buy a bale and fill up a large rubbermaid with hay, and then donate the rest to the Bunny Bunch (one of the rabbit rescues out there).

Poor Boston! *sniffle* Now you’ve REALLY made bunny cry! lolz… j/k

You said something about herbs in the hay? Sometimes I put a pinch of dried dandelion in my bunnies’ hay to encourage them to eat it. I usually find it’s all gone by morning when I do that. Could you maybe sprinkle some pellets in the hay? If she’s got to search around in it for those, perhaps she’ll take a few more mouthfuls of the ‘nasty stuff?’

I don’t think it would make any difference to her! She only answers to what she wants to, when she wants to! =P
