Is orchard hay ok to substitute with timothy for a couple weeks? The woman that will be taking care of Edson while I’m gone is allergic to timothy hay and asked that I bring orchard hay. I’m sure it will be fine because I think that’s what Save a Bunny feeds their bunnies and  Edson is not picky. Do I need to gradually introduce it or can I just go cold turkey?

Orchard grass is perfectly acceptable – it is a grass hay. If I remember correctly too this is what Osprey feeds his trio.

You might want to introduce it to Edson right away to make sure he likes it – you know how picky these buns can be even if Edson isn’t.

I would not mix it though, you won’t know if he is eating it or not.

My bunnies, and many of the Haven’s foster bunnies, get Orchard grass as their staple hay.  Mine get oat, 2nd cut timothy and BinkyBunny Meadow mix as treat hays too (spoiled little bunnies they are).  They disapprove of first cut timothy.  At least one of our foster sites is run by a lady who is very allergic to Timothy hay, she uses orchard grass because it is much less dusty.

So the orchard is ok teethwise?  It still does the same to keep the teeth “trimmed”?

Orchard grass should be fine for him, belly and teeth wise.
