So my rabbit (Sweet Pea) LOVES orchard grass hay. He loves it so much that he won’t even really touch his timothy hay anymore. So my question is, is it ok just to give him orchard grass hay unstead of timothy? Should I try to give a mix of both?

        Thanks so much

I believe orchard grass has about the same nutrients as timothy, i could be wrong tho.. i have to look that up. Luckily my buns like both

Alot of buns are picky, some just wont touch timothy hay. orchard should be fine to feed in place of it

Ditto – Orchard is fine as a replacement.

My pair have been getting orchard as their regular hay for about a year… they like timothy and they’ll still eat it, but the devour the orchard. Give your bun orchard if that’s what he likes…

Thanks so much! you guys have really helped me out. Now I feel a lot better now. I didn’t want to give him something that was not as good for him as timothy hay. But now I know it’s ok.

I give Monkey her tim hay n her litter box, and stuff her grass ball with orchard. She goes bonkers over her ball now

Correct me if I’m wrong, guys, but I think the main difference is that orchard is a bit softer and greener. Recommended for bunnies who may avoid hay, and equal in nutrition. Best for those who don’t like the dry, tougher hays, like Oat, which Sammy loves best, but she’s weird. Sigh.

Monkey does tend to pick through her timothy hay to find the softer bits. Moose doesn’t care. If it’s hay, it goes in his tummy he’s such a guy.
