        I’m very frustrated. I was at an aquaintance’s place today and her little male bunny (she has 2) had a snotty nose. One nostril had yucky white slime dripping down it. Obviously if this was my bun he would have been rushed to the vet but she’s in the attitude of  “oh well, it’s just a rabbit and I don’t really have any money.”   AGGGGGGGGHHHHH! Go in dept if you have to for crying out loud! You bought the rabbit!

        I’m torn because I know this could be something serious and that the other bun is likely to catch it too. What could this be and is there anything I can do for him other than try to convince her to take him to the vet? (which I will try, alas, I feel it will be in vain)

          It’s called the snuffles, and it’s highly contagious. Doesn’t mean the other bun will get it. It’s caused by a variety of bacteria and the bunny may get over it himself. But if taken to the vet, a sample can be taken to find the exact bacterial cause, and the exact antibiotic to use.

          Hope this helps!

            oh noooo dumb things people do. it isn’t just a rabbit it is a responsibility tooo. doggone. this may seem dumb but can you take them for her ? maybe convince her of that and she can pay you back. I have spent so much on my buns this month to begin with and then the girl gets an infection in her eye and nostril and she jsut came back from vet so my cell phone is only being paid in half this month oh well.  you know it is best to catch these things early if they get worse cost lot more $. and it really isn’t all that expensive she could make payments too. the vet visit was 42 and the med 16 so she may not have to pay a lot if she brings them in early. poor buns they could die

                Oh dear, it is definately some type of infection, it could be snuffles but it’s hard to say. If you let any infection get too bad it can reach their brain which then can give them head tilt and if it still goes untreated, it can kill them. I hope that helps give your acquaintace incentive, use a credit card if you have to sheesh!

                I also wanted to add an article from my favorite author, Dana Krempels:

                  Great article – I like how she defines “snuffles” – I don’t think that snuffles is a good term really since in my opinion it’s really describes symptoms (and not too well) and is not an actual disease or infection.

                  Without a full vet work-up it’s really hard to say but I would definitely show her Dana Kremple’s article to hopefully entice her to get the bunny to a vet.

                      She’s been out of town for the last few days but I’m gonna “pop” in this weekend and really drill it into her. Wish me luck

                          I would kidnap him if I could! But I have Olivia’s vet bills right now and that’s all on Mr. Credit card. It cost over $100 yesterday, It will be $100 for the culture and I have to bring her back in 7 days…. sigh.

                          Does anyone have a rabbit that poops out money, cuz that would be good…

                            Is snuffles also a disease called Pasterella? Last I heard it was not curable, but I was a kid when I last heard about this. I hope that bunny gets taken care of.

                              Snuffles is caused by Pasterella. You can cure the symptoms but not the bacteria. I’m actually dealing with this disease right now. The little girl I adopted has it. You can read more about it in my post “Olivia’s first vet visit”

                                    I was mentioning this to my daughter, because her bun makes such huge poops, that if they turned to gold in teh litterbox, we’d be set for life and could probably leave fortunes for most of our relatives inthe meantime! ^^;

                                    That was a great article btw. The H.A.R.E. site goes into my favorties, I like how Dana makes things easy to understand.

                                      Little Puffy Tail, I was joking about the bunnynapping, I know you have been a doll taking care of your bun and the vets bills too. I really hope your firend comes to their senses.
