I just placed an order at my local HRS to pick up supplies for my two furbutts and one of their new items was the Oxbow botanical blend that has edible herbs and flowers in it.  Has anyone tried this with their bunnies?  Also, speaking of botanical, are dried organic rosebuds OK for a bunny to eat?  I saw a place online selling them as a treat for bunnies. I know that they are OK for humans to eat fresh and just the petals and I enjoy rose hip jam, but am hesitant to say that they are OK for bunnies.  Anyone have any input on this?

I had the botanical blend before. It smelled so good.. i seriously wanted to blend it and drink it!

It’s just timothy with dried flowers mixed in. It smelled so good, so I thought my bunny would love it, but he wasn’t too incredibly enthralled… when I first gave it to him, he dug through to eat all the flowers and what not and just left the hay.

According to Medirabbit, Roses and their leaves and stems are OK for bunnies to eat.  The in the video of the Boing lady from Australia, you can see her feeding entire rose stems to her bunnies.

Oh aha that is good to know Osprey, thanks!
Thanks for the info Rachel, I’m wondering if my two will be doing the same thing. However they just LOVED the bunny blend hay from Binky Bunny and scarfed it up like fiends! They give it two nose twitches and a 4 Binky Rating out of 5. The reason they didn’t give it a five is because they ran out! LOL

My bun seems to be “too good” for any hay that’s not super fresh. I buy a big box of hay from my local HRS that’s straight from the farmer… it’s a blend of like 4 different hays and it seems to be the thing he likes the most. I should probably look into finding a local feed store!

i was looking at it, but wow it’s expensive. you can also air dry your own herbs and flowers and add it to the hay, i’ve heard lots of bunnies really enjoy it as an addition to hay 🙂 buns looove to nibble roses too! so i imagine dried ones might be tasty too.

OK that’s great! Yeah, I am buying one to see which ones are in it. I plan on buying some (organic of course from Vitamin Cottage) or plucking them from my herb garden fresh! Any ideas about chamomile or lavender? Can you give the link where you looked? I’d like to peruse it.

One herb that smells great and grows REALLY well is mint. I had a plant in my window box and it got OUT OF CONTROL (but that was good because more for the buns!). Also, I found that basil grows really well too, and both of these also smell great.

My bunnies really like the botanical hay, but I am still debating about whether or not it is worth the price. I buy Timothy hay currently, in bales, so my hay is only about $10/bale, and I don’t know if the Oxbow botanical hay is worth it, if you are in an area where you can grow nice herbs and veg. If you’re located in the city and somewhat “concrete locked” then its probably IS worth it, but as an alternative you can still grown flowers, herbs, and vegetables in garden boxes like I did in LA, and the bunnies REALLY enjoy the fresh veg even more that the dried flowers in my opinion (which is based off of Kramer’s opinion, which is, if its not straight from the garden box he doesn’t eat it!)

i think any herbs your bun likes to eat fresh would be a hit dried and mixed into the hay. I don’t have a link, but I know my friend Cindy mentioned basil and cilantro specifically.
