Harness Measurements

I have a Giant Continental and need to measure him forms harness, I don’t have a garden at all so I have nowhere to let him out.
I want to ease him into wearing a harness so I can take him out to public places with no other animals so he can explore.
How do you measure a bunny for a harness…. I understand some don’t like bunnies to wear harnesses but if he doesn’t he won’t be able to go out at all.

Sorry no one has answered you yet. Most manufacturers should have instructions on how to measure for their particular harnesses so if I was in the market for one, and I wasn’t able to tell from the store I was purchasing it at, I would verify with the manufacturer. Most harnesses in my experience are measured using neck inches. Some may give you a weight limit as well.

With that said it is true that some don’t like harnesses, myself included. I think they are too dangerous and not worth the risk at all. My bunnies are perfectly happy in the comfort of their home. I use a carrier for vet visits and that’s all I need to keep them safe and comfortable when they do have to go out of the house. Not only are harnesses risky but taking them out in public also has it’s own risks. I only mention this so you don’t feel bad if you find you can’t take your big guy out at all. A lot of rabbits don’t like harnesses to begin with.

my bunny expert vet agrees with Doodles, I will also add that she told me if a bunny get’s startled and tries to run off wearing a harness that when they get to the end of the leash it can snap them back so hard that it breaks their back. your bunny will be just fine indoors if you can’t take him outside. I built a large enough pen in my back yard for me to sit in it with my bunny so I can protect her from any danger (I even put a top on it) and when I take her out to it she really can’t wait to get back in the house.

IF you get a harness make sure it’s an H style harness. Also you can get a bungee leash to use on its own or attached to a regular leash.

I’ve read up on the risks and have read several horror stories, but I’m getting my bunny used to the harness and leash indoors so that we can at least try it when the weather gets warmer. She’s pretty chill and hardly gets spooked, but if she doesn’t handle it well I’m not going to force it
