        Hello everyone,

I just put down all laminate flooring in my house, and I was just wondering how many of you have bunnies in a home without carpet?  My buns don’t seem to enjoy running around as much.  They probably can’t, because they don’t have enough traction.  I don’t want to go out and buy a bunch of area rugs, so what should I do?  Any suggestions, because right now they can just slowly hop around?  Is this alright, or should they be able to run and jump to get more exercise?

        Thanks!

Your observations are correct, most bunnies slip and slide on hardwood floors. We have hardwood floors at my house, I had to buy a couple carpets. They will be okay on hardwood for small amounts of time like in-between carpets or if they wander onto the areas that are not carpeted. But yes, they do need to be able to run and jump, also they can easily get hurt trying to run, jump, binky, ect. on hardwood floors. Oh also sore hocks can develop.

we have no carpet in our house as well. I just bought a $20 5×7 rug and the bunnies love it! They should get used to the hard floors soon but it is still hard for them to run on them.

Houdini doesn’t hesitant to run across our hardwood floor. I’ve never seen him zoom or jump across, he only moves from room to room, carpet to carpet, etc.

Olive scuffles quite frequently across the linoleum floor in the kitchen–I call it her “Flinstones” routine, as she scrabbles madly in place but doesn’t go anywhere for a second. (She also seems embarrassed by this behavior, and I get thumped for laughing at her). I have her and Simon’s X pen in the kitchen, precisely because it’s got linoleum floors and they can’t dig at them or chew on anything that’s not in their litterbox, but I just started having them free range during the day since they’re bonding so well and not fighting or even sniping anymore. They did the biggest binkies this morning, and Simon, who is probably the younger bunny, does Bunny 500’s around the coffee table. Once ,they even binkied simultaneously. It was cuteness overload.

Well, when I first plopped Monkey into the kitchen on the tile, she would waddle across it all wary of slipping. Now she bounces across it like its her normal carpet. They learn to deal if it’s what they have

Samson has learned to run on our tile floors, but it’s nothing like how she runs on carpet, and I’ve never seen her bunny 500 on the hard floors. Lady looks likes she’s swimming when she tries to run on the hard floors, it makes me LOL. We recently added a large area rug to our living room and now she hangs out in there all day instead of at the other end of the house in my room which is carpeted.

They wont get sore hocks from solid floors though, only cage/wire flooring.
