Though I know several other countries celebrate official days of gratitude/Thanksgiving, on other days (except I googled a factoidish thing – Brazil supposedly celebrates on the same day)  But I am not 100% sure about that…..ANYWAY, I digress.   Happy Thanksgiving U.S. peoples!

What’s your plan?  And are you venturing out into Black Friday?

My husband and I are keeping it small with just another couple (since family lives far away) and so we’ll stuff ourselves on turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie…well AND chocolate pie.   Then we’ll sit back and watch dvds while we melt under the weight of all the food.

And what about Black Friday (I also heard that Canadians call this Boxing Friday, you Canadians can verify that, and if that’s true – that fits better!)

Though in my younger days, I would hit the streets shopping with all the big dogs but now I’m a shopping sissy and like to stay out of the way.  However, my husband said we have to try for an awesome deal but we have to get to the the store at 3am (at the latest!)  What the???  OYE!  I am afraid I’m going to get killed – it’s crazy nutso shopping in the city and bay area. And I’ve been out of the game for so long that i’m not sure how to toughen up my skin and get back in. hmmmm.  Well, we’ll see.  I am such a night owl, I may just stay up.

        So what are your plans?

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Floppy is apparently excited about Thanksgiving
also since he is doing that fast running binky thing …haha right onto his litterbox.
I am not sure if I will be shopping on Friday morning (maybe Target) but I will
probably spend the day with my family and then head over to my boyfriends for
the grand feast! My boyfriend and I even made our first Black Forest Roll Cake the
other day, we put the whip cream on top and thinly chopped chocolate on top
this evening. Pumpkin pie…Turkey…potatoes…gravy…so many other yummy
          delights!

          Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

            Happy Thanksgiving all.

I was up until 3, baking pies, making baked ziti, artichoke dip and stuffing ready. Will be cranking up the oven to do the Tofurky roast latter today.

Which reminds me, have to peel potatos and make the cashew cream for the pies.

As for black Friday….Hell will freeze over before I go to a store at 4am!  I may do the malls on Saturday, but I am a mail order junkie so it will be to window shop only.

My sister and her husband have gone to Las Vegas for some basketball games with friends so this is my first T.giving without any family. I’m cooking the whole schmoo myself just for hubby and I and enjoying a BEAUTIFUL 70+ degree day here in N.C. with the windows open until the cold front comes in All the cats are playing outside catching falling leaves (looks like it’s snowing leaves there are so many).

MoSimba is in his cage stretched out sleeping in the sun, so cute. I’ve noticed he’s been re-arranging his toys and knick knacks in his cage at night. I guess he’s a task driven bun.

                Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! Eat lots and lots!

We celebrate thanksgiving in October and ‘Boxing day’ for us it the 26 of December, that’s our crazy shopping day.

I’ve never heard of ‘black friday’ before? Is this referring to the stock market crash maybe? It’s crazy, you know our countries are touching and we are so influenced by the US and everything and I’ve never even heard of black friday or shopping at four am on that day!! Too funny!

Binky I too hate shopping in crowds! I like to go when it is the quietest rather then during crazy sales! I am finding I like online shopping alot hehe!

US Retailers call is "Bl;ack Friday" because they hope that all the sales will put them "in the black" for the year .  Though I’ve often thought that it could also describe the moods of frustrated and stressed out shoppers.  you couldn’t PAY me to go shopping tomorrow!

Pepper and I are spending the day resting – I’m getting over bronchitis again.  Tomorrow i drive to Cincinnatti and back for a brief visit and to deliver some new (to them at least) electronics to some low-income friends.  Bet you didn;t know that Santa drives a rented Hyundai, did you?

then Saturday I have my turkey with friends who hold their annual "orphans" Thanksgiving dinner.  And Sunday I have volunteered for a shift gift-wrapping at a downtown bookstore to raise money for the Red Door Shelter.    I’ll be working with Toni (the rabbit adoption coordinator) so I’ll say hi from all the Chicago binkybuns.

bunzai, cashew cream pies?!?!? sounds DELICIOUS! what else is in them? my mom loves nuts but is allergic to walnuts, pecans, and brazil nuts so i’m always looking for yummy nut recipies without those "bad" ingredients in them.

Lion-O, the cashew cream is a replacement topping for whipped cream.  I use it on my apple and pumpkin pies.  It really is decadent.  Blend:  one cup of raw cashews  & one cup water.  As the blender is running add a stream of canola oil until the mix thickens.  About 1/2 cup to start.  Add 4 tablespoons maple syrup, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and a pinch of salt.

I make it the day before, refrigerate it in a glass jar and you would be amazed at how thick it can get.  It all depends on the quality of the cashews.  It does not keep longer than 2 /3 days so you may want to half the recipie.

Apologies  to the Mods  for straying off topic

No need to apologize my goodness Bunzai! It’s the lounge for goodness sake, where we just chat it up.

Happy late Thanksgiving everyone! Roasted a 25 pound turkey with stuffing, made candied yams from scratch, two pumpkin pies, a decadent pecan cake (Paula Deene recipe), cranberry sauce and gravy. We also had 4-bean salad my brother made and rolls. There were 8 of us and we barely put a dent in the turkey.

I did brave Kohls today, but NOT at 4 am when they opened. I went at about 10 and stood in line 45 minutes for the cash register.  I went for the kitchen electrics and got a Cuisinart panini/griddle/grill and a toaster to replace the one I broke cooking as I had to move it and well, the vent pipe for the oven is hot and plastic melts….LOL Along with the early bird special, I had an extra 15% off coupon so I scored there and some great $30-$40 sweaters for just $10! Woohoo!

Lion-O. We’re not crazy strict on strays here, and especially if you have a great recipe…stray away! I’m going to try it!

Well, as far as black friday goes, we decided to just check out the places we wanted to go at around midnight (Comp USA, Circuit City, Best Buys) just to see if people were starting to line up. Sure nuff – they were wrapped around the building with tents and sleeping bags. Not only that, one of the Best Buys in the city had a line starting in at 1pm in the afternoon – they weren’t giving out the tickets for the $200 computers until 3am. So, when I saw that as we were heading to our friends house, I gave up right then and there. Boy, if this is how Black Friday is around here, I’m a bigger shopping wuss than I thought I was. There is no way I’m sitting on a sidewalk all Thanksgiving day, and all night long. But who knows, if I was on a really really tight budget, and I had kids, and my famiily could use a computer, printer, monitor, keyboard, and bunch of other extras, all  for $200 bucks, then maybe…maybe I would try to be the first 15 people who are supposed to get it. Don’t know.
