I’m still a new bun mom with lotsa questions

My rabbit’s daily routine (rabbits like routine, I read, am I correct?) for 4 days a week (my work schedule):

She is asleep during the day, awake at night, I come home at night and she comes out into her playpen. Her playpen is attached to her cage (dog kennel) and stretches out to my bathroom area. She is in my room .. She gets a lot of space. I let her out for 3 hours, I spend about an hour with her face to face . When I am about to go to bed, I minimize her playpen so that I can get to… my bathroom  and I can’t supervise her while asleep. When I wake up in the morning, she is inside her kennel asleep (or attempting to, teehee) and that is when I close the cage door and clean up.

On my days off, she comes out for more than 4 hours

        I am just concerned..
Do bunnies ever get bored? Chacha always runs around for a while, binkies.. she has a bunch of toys to chew on, tunnels, cardboard, a bunny condo, shoebox, towel, blanket, etc

I ask because she has become awfully quiet lately. It makes me think that she is bored. I’ve seen her hop around and do her usual chewing and clawing at her blanket. I lay in the playpen and she always sniffs me, climbs on me sometimes, puts her paws on me, nibbles my shirt.. lol.

If I change her set up around in her playpen, she thumps

Any advice for the new bun mom?

If I had known that having one rabbit was this easy, I would have gotten one of her siblings too. I emailed the seller and she said she gave her siblings to the petstore  Shoot.. It would have kept little Chacha more busy..

Some bunnies like being on their own, but most bunnies could use some bunny company. As a rule, bunnies are very social creatures and will greatly benefit from the company of another bunny. Does she like her toys? If she doesn’t play with it, maybe you could try to see if something else might interest her.

The fact that they are siblings does not necessarily mean that they are best of friends, so don’t worry about it. You can always find her a bunny boyfriend when you are ready for it

For me to get her a companion, it would have to be after 2 years. I will be going to school soon. We are both night people, so I wouldn’t mind doing my homework while she plays and take breaks and hang out with her. The second problem would be money for 2 bunnies. I know that they would share things, but I just can’t afford two. But another is in the future but just not right now.

Actually, I have the lights out right now as I type this. She is making a bunch of noise and rummaging around with newspaper

Yeah, she does like her toys. When I first got her, she ignored them!! But I hear her ripping at newspaper, chewing on her wooden blocks.. I guess I shouldn’t take quietness as boredom 😮 She is more active while I am asleep LOL.. I’m a heavy sleeper at night, and I woke up one night to hear her making noises

I shouldn’t worry as much.. I guess I should worry IF she ever starts chewing on her cage !!!

Everytime I get paid, I try to buy her a new toy and put it out for her

Quietness is in my opinion often a sign of boredom, but your bunny doesn’t sound like she sitting quietly on her own in apathy all day long. Maybe she just isn’t awake at the same hours you are, so you see her in the corner sitting quietly and looking bored, but in fact she is sound asleep. In time she will probably get more used to your routine and be awake at the same time as you.

Sounds like she is having fun with the newspapers There are lots of great ideas on cheap toys you can make yourself down in the Habitat and Toys forum.

Are you able to bunny proof your room and let her out into a bigger area? I think you can never let your bunny run in too large of an area – this will give her more to explore and an endless variety of things to do.

she sounds very fortunate to have a bunny slave that is so caring and a wise choice about not getting another bunny… is she spayed?

MirBear, she isn’t spayed yet. She is only 2 months old. I will be in the later months

Sometimes when I turn around, she is just cleaning herself (which she does a lot) or is sitting comfortably on the carpet staring into space.. she does that sometimes.

I just woke up put a cushion next to her playpen. She binkied and ran around like a HAPPY bunny She was making a ton of noise last night, so I’m guessing that she prefers the darkness and night

I do have stuff to bunny proof wires wiith. I can’t let her have too much space, I do not want her to run under my bed… she’ll LOVE that place too much  Will have to give her more room tonight

Oh, and she will be going outside soon to discover the goodness of the yard I’ll bring her playpen out there to let her chew on grass and graze!

I agree that when she is “being quiet” she might be asleep. Bunnies sleep with their eyes open – creepy, hu!

Sounds like you are doing a great job with her.

I agree Sage Cat – Otto will zonk out while sitting in the living room staring into space. At least I assume he’s sleeping because he gets very unreactive and his nose stops twitching 🙂 Bunnies are sneaky sleepers.

What? For real?! Bunnies sleep with their eyes open?!!? Wow!! I’m surprised!! I learn something new everyday with her!!
She will lay in the playpen and stare into space.. its quite funny!! She is just a quiet bunny. She keeps to herself, like me.

I found out that the weather this coming week will be turning rainy.. will have to see if one of the days that I am off is sunny for her..

Chacha got mad at me for invading her playpen.. so I will leave her to play for a while… and do other things like search binkybunny
