Hamster on the loose!

LOL my hamster got loose from his ball while I was out of the room for a minute.  Luckily I was able to find him and offer him some apple to get him back in the ball.

Do any of you have stories like that with your pets?

My mouse did that once, but she rolled her ball so that the opening was facing the ground so essentially she trapped herself. so it was all good.

Another time she escaped her cage, my housemate found her in her bedroom,

One of my guinea pigs got under it’s playpen and got wedge between the freezer and the tv stand…learned to block that space off.

We had a hammie breakout early one morning. I opened the bedroom door and our hamster, Elvis runs by. Followed by a parade of 3 cats lol. Fortunately no one was breakfast and he got put back in his cage.

Wow, BM! Fortunate indeed!

A few years back, I was interstate to help my sister who was preparing to move. I was only gone 1 day, one night. During this time, my parents and another sister were at my place on and off. (She was in country for short time and they were using the place as stopping point while running errands). At the time, I only had Jersey who was a free ranging bunny, except for overnight. My sister had never met her but she told me that Jersey took a liking to going under her full length skirt. Talk about a trip hazard!

Anyhow, they were preparing lunch and the fridge had been opened multiple times…

aaaand- Jersey accidentally got shut in the fridge!  

I don’t know for how long but apparently she just hopped out when the next person opened it. No harm done.

They actually didn’t mention it to me at the time. Lol. My brother spilled the beans not long after, on Christmas Day.

I also lost her when she was younger. She’s been outside and disappeared. I was devastated!!!! I actually thought someone must have plucked her up from over a fence, I was that convinced she couldn’t have escaped.

Next morning she reappeared for her breakfast like everything was normal. She’d made her way through the neighbours fence and into a cavern under their shed and spent the night there. It was probably like a haven to her but it was hell for me not knowing what had happened to her!

Wow, Jersey. That girl of yours sounds like bunny special forces material. lol I wonder how many other buns get trapped in the fridge because I know that Chewie nearly has a time or three. (He knows where mommy keeps the greens.)

Haha! Yes, she was one of a kind. <3 She was very food-driven also. One day, she stole the same apple 3 times. Obviously I wasn't very clever about putting it out of her reach.

I was usually aware of where she was and her bunny antics. But my visiting family were less familiar. She was one for sitting in the space under a recliner too, so I’d get in and out the chair while it was reclined. I was paranoid when anyone else used it and they had to do the same. 

I never go away. I would just miss my bunny crew too much. I can imagine my instructions to whoever would be looking in on them if I were to go away. Pages of all the things they’re capable of long checklists to try ensure their safety.

I know the feeling. I walk around feeling empty when I’m away from Chewie – even just at work. I’ll have to leave him for the second time ever in a couple of weeks to see my parents, and I’m already starting to feel pangs of guilt. It’s one of the reasons I want to retire in two years – so I can be home with him full time.

We’ve never really had a pet get away since I only grew up with cats, but our one cat Sparks was very good at getting shut in places. Once she was trapped in my parent’s wardrobe all day. It’s weird because she didn’t meow at all until late in the day and then we had a tough time tracking down the sound.

We also had one locked in a shed for almost a whole day as well, after that dad cut a little cat hole in the shed.

I also always feel guilty about going away when I have pets. Partly because I miss them and I know they’ll be confused but also because I worry that no one else will make sure to take as good care of them as I do. Still, it’s always been fine when I have gone, but I still feel terribly guilty every time.

Our first hamster was loose for three days once, when she got out of her ball (thus prompting us to put tape on the lid to be sure it stayed shut) in the basement. We were frantic but the basement had a lot of hiding and dark spots so we couldn’t find her. So we took one of the bins, put one of the hamster tubes from the ground to over the ledge, and filled the bin with her fluff, food, and water. The next day, we found the stuff disturbed but no hamster so we knew she’d gotten her fill before escaping at least. We then adjusted the tubing so it was higher up.

The next morning, we checked the bin and found a huffy hamster glaring at us

Cats as DIY-helpers and floorboards…. not a good combo!

Years ago my brother came home from an eve out.
He could hear Minty-the-cat miaowing but couldn’t work out where from…. and the miaowing kept moving but he couldn’t locate where…. LOL.
After a long time training his ear on all fours he realised the miaowing was coming from beneath the wall-to-wall fitted carpet!
She’d sneaked in under the floorboards when dad was being Mr DIY that day. He’d safely and carefully put floorboards back AND relaid the carpet back over them !!

Needless to say my brother woke Dad at 1am to get the carpet back up !!! LOL
