Half Brother Update

I just thought I would update everyone that knows about my half brother that I work with.

I have been working for the Police Department now for 7 months and have kept this secret from my brother for that long.

A couple of days ago I had heard he was transferring to another station; I only had a week to either tell him whom I was or never tell him.

I decided to tell him, I was too scared so I asked my boss to do it, he had told him and he came up to me and said I believe we are related and he gave me a cuddle.  We are catching up tomorrow and going to look through all our photo’s and childhood memories, I am so excited.

I was told he was not a very nice person but getting to know him over those last 7 months know he is a gentle and nice person. I think people say that because most of them mix a lot and drink a lot where he does not drink and is a dedicated family man.

Just wanted to share my excitement with those that remembered my original topic.

I have been so awed by this amazing story from the start. I don’t know how you did it – knowing he was your half-brother and keeping quiet about it. Congratulations!!! And what a great boss to help you out! The whole thing makes me teary!

I am sending “bonding” vibes you and your brother’s way. No matter what happens, I know that this was a chance that you had to take. At least I know I would have felt I needed to too. I’m so excited for you also.

Oh, and how hard was it to be talking to him, getting to know him and know he was brother but felt you couldn’t say anything??? Wow! Shivers…I get shivers just thinking about this story. Amazing.

It was hard but at the same time, we have gotten to know each other as a person first.  

I think some part of me was scared for him to know as I thought he might reject me.

Many adopted people have rejection problems, as we were rejected as a baby and I was rejected again when I met his mother years later. I guess I thought it would happen again.

I do remember when this all came about for you. And it was on your brand new job also. I’m very glad you finally told him – I agree that your boss was great to help you out in a very delicate personal circumstance.

You gave yourself time to sense whether he was a nice person so I think you had time to feel out the situation’s potential first, which was wise. I could never have held that in for that long! How far is he moving?

Lisa I am SO happy for you! ^_^ I was told my birth father beat me and my mother and that he was a terrible man, but I could not get him out of my head and was sure everyone was wrongly prejudiced against him, so I had my husband call him after my grandfather/stepdad passed away and ask him if he’d like to meet me. He instantly said yes and we’ve been very close ever since.

I wish you all the best in this new “old” relationship! ^_^

Wow Lisa, I too agree that this is one amazing story and how you’ve managed all this time, I don’t know. I am very glad that you two are spending some time together and catching up. Perhaps it was a good thing that you waited as it seems to me that if you had told him back then, things likely would have gone a lot differently.

Timing was right, he was going through some issues when I first went there and it was not a good time. We caught up and it was great, we looked at a lot of pictures and I had some paperwork that told me all about my birth mother that he said he never even knew.

He showed me picks of our mother when he was two years old, she was quite attractive.

We will keep in touch and he said he will speak to the other brother to see if he would like to meet me.

So maybe another update when that happens.

7.15 am Sunday just heading out to let all the little Binky Dinks out for run around the back garden. I take my breakfast out and sit and watch them, they sure are funny little things, their mum included.

Wow, I just read the original post too (must have been during my BB hiatus, haha)… such an interesting story and situation. Most have been pretty neat uncovering the past even though it’s a bit dark.
