well I had to put Snowflake & Butterscotch in their own pens.  snowball was chasing butterscotch and he pulled out a tuft of his hair this evening so I decided I had to do it after calling the vet and asking to have them checked and neutered because the hormones are getting to be to much.  I just wonder since they are males can I let them out together after the vet finally decides to neuter them or will they fight….since they are not in the same pen any longer but are next to each other if that counts for anything.  I wish this neuter thing would have gone a little smoother, we are doing so good in every other way.  I am a little bit down tonight I had hoped they could stay together in the same pen but it will all work out eventually, I just hope I did the right thing.  Do they gt more affectionate when they get neutered?  These two a pretty crazy right now!

They’ll calm down a lot more after the neuter. You should probably wait about four weeks after the neuter-to let them heal and then try them together again. But you may need to do some bonding exercises to get them to get along again

it’s not uncommon for this to happen pre-neuter. i don’t recall, are they still very young? in some cases, if they are neutered right when the testicles drop, approx 3-4 months, they can continue to live together with no falling outs. but sometimes if you put it off a bit, they will become aggressive. i’d suggest you switch them between the pens every night. this should prevent them from becoming territorial over the space they are in.

you did the right thing separating. first of all, you can’t supervise 24/7. second, what can happen is that if they do continuously fight pre-neuter, even if it’s just a few nips here or there, this can affect their ability to get along afterwards. by separating ASAP, you’ve increased the chances that post-neutering bonding will be smooth(er)… ;o)

edited to add:  i just checked your profile.  you have them listed as being born on August 1st.  so coming up on 6 months, this is very normal that this would start about this time.  did the vet say they would not neuter til 6 months, or were you waiting for another reason?

I will have to read up on bonding so we are ready after the neuter. they are such good friends and were grooming each other and all so I hope it works out and it sounds like there is a possibility. I just love those two little guiys and their health and happiness is so important to us. I hpe to be able to adopt a female one day from the humane society i didn’t even realize they had any there but in checking both in our area has several, and i know they have to pick there own friends so in the future I hope I can do this

I think it’s great they got along so long, I think they’ll be ok post-neuter. I have 2 boys myself and they’re seperated as well (they’re from 2 seperate litters). Through the pen interactions are ok, calm, but if they get out it becomes crazy. Guppy my 4 month old Holland will try to mount my older neutered rabbit Cheeky and vice versa. I think Guppy’s coming into his own, so thats why the humping, but he’ll be neutered in a few months and thats when I plan to start the bonding process. I hope everything goes well with your boys

thats right the boys are gonna be six months old. Snowflake had undecended testicles and snowflake is so small that the male parts had not even shown up yet so i take them next wednesday to see if the time is right now. i sure hope they are ready. Things have gone so well this far and the vet said I am doing a good job with them and they look real good. they do make great pets and are so cute to watch. when they are out of the exercise pens they just fly round the room and tear up newspaper and play with toys they have so they seem happy and healthy, and they climb all over us when we lay on the floor and snowflake is a big licker he must thnk we are a mess and he has to clean us up.

Things are going well here. Butterscotch & Snowflake lick each other through the cages is one is out running around and the other is in the pen so that is good they seem to still be good buddies. I am moving them back and forth in the pens which was a real good idea to discourage them getting territorial and it seems to work they have no idea which is there territory. Snowflake dosn’t seem to mind being handled if pickup and held securely but Butterscotch dosn’t like being picked up and prefers to walk up to a person and get pet and treats. funny how they are so different Snowflake still runs in the other direction but will let me pick him up. I haven’t tried cutting nails myself yet but this week I plan to try one and see how he takes it. They do them at the pet store and it dosn’t bother them at all but it has been to cold to take them over there so I would like to do it at home.

well the big day is 2/18/2009 for the buns neutering. Should I have anything in the house for them and will they be a bit lethargic for a few days? I suppose they are all different and react differently. the vet says they will be much better pets after the job is done. I am just a bit nervous about the whole thing but I suppose I am just being silly.

My two boys have been bonded since July 2008. They’ve been getting along fine until now but recently started to fight for whatever reason. They are getting so aggressive that I had to seperate them too. I haven’t been able to figure out what’s going on yet. Please keep me informed on how your boys do after neuter.

There’s not much to do pre-neuter. Just be ready to give extra love post-neuter. It’s helpful for the bunnies to keep the area quiet while they recover.

i sure will let you know how we do.  I usually move the bunnies around in the pens, which was the best suggestion I got to keep them from getting territorial.  I have the pens side by side so they see each other and then once a day I put the one from the right pen in the left and theone in the left in the right so they don’t really have a territory it seems to be working.

Butterscotch and Snowflake were neutered today and it went very well so far. I was nervous but the vet I finally found through the house rabbit society was great and it was only a half hour ride from home. now hopefully they will rebond next month when everything settles down. I have them in exercise pens right nest to each other so they can see and touch each other and it seems to be going well. Butterscotch did jump right out of the pen he like has springs on his feet but they are getting older and he didn’t chew or wet while he was out for about an hour and then he went back to their bunny proof room and played in the digging box. I was very encouraged that Snowflake and I are bonding because when we were in the vets office Snowflake ran across the floor and jumped up on me and ran right up under my neck. bunnies are interesting to try to understand.
