Lolli has been eating my couch. Yeah I know. Eddie’s blockage was probably carpet among other things and now she’s eating fabric. But I sprayed vinegar/water on it and she definitely doesn’t like that! So I will just respray every few days and keep watching her to make sure she doesn’t start up again. It always feels like a victory when you find something that deters them. Or am I just nuts? lol
And she’s a happy girl! She did a big binky last night while zooming around! So I’m glad. I’m convinced she’s fine being an only bun right now and am going to wait to get another bun. I had been starting the process for finding a new one but I’m not really in the financial position to get one. So as long as Lolli is ok, I will wait.
Nice, it’s definetly a celebration when we can outsmart our naughty bunnies LOL
My PitStop seems to prefer being an only bunny.
Glad to hear Lolli is adjusting well.
And about the couch, I recently discovered Lil bud was eating our couch. I’ve pulled some pieces away from him…It got to the point where I stopped letting him behind the couch…
If anyone figures out why these naughty buns insist on eating carpet and couches, I am very interested!
And now I am theoretically banging my head against the wall. The vinegar/water only works when the fabric is wet. Bang bang bang. Sigh. I may have to get some more NIC cubes and put them around the couch now. Which may be awkward as she is eating the FRONT of the couch. lol
Oh wow.. have you tried gross perfume?
So far, I can still smell it against the wall and so does Chacha, I’m assuming. She hasn’t touched the wall since..
I have heard people rub soap on stuff and they dont’ like the flavor.
You know what works good. Phoey. I sprayed it on the wires after Cotton had a chewing fest on them. I sprayed it 3 1/2 years ago. When I mess with those wires now I still can taste that Phoey on my hands. Cotton hasn’t bothered those wires since. Plus I have NIC cubes protecting and those cord protectores too.
Goodness she just loves your furniture a bit too much. lol Hope she doens’t get another blockage. I know you are worried for her
Yes, since Eddie died from a huge blockage, I am militant about what she eats. Eddie liked the carpet. Lolli likes the furniture. lol But the upside is that since it’s just me and her now, she is listening a lot better. So she hasn’t messed with the couch really. She tries, but she knows it’s a no no so as soon as she sees me, she hops off. Whereas before, she’d look at me and then go back to doing it. lol
What is Phoey?
Did Eddie tear your carpet up? Baxter used to pull ours up. We still haven’t fixed the carpet. Have you tried directly spraying her with a water bottle and firmly telling her no? Also, I don’t know if I heard it from someone on this site but someone said that they had a motion activated thing from Halloween that made a scary noise when you got close to it. They put it under their furniture to keep their bun away and it worked. Halloween it right around the corner and you could probably find something like that pretty cheap.
Spraying water doesn’t work on Lolli. It doesn’t penetrate to her skin, so she doesn’t feel it. I’ve tried some stuff that’s eucalyptus and lemon oil and that hasn’t deterred her either. And she’s now chewing on the baby gate. Not eating the pieces she chews off, but still chewing. And yes, she has plenty of other stuff to chew on. Sigh.
I think it’s time to buy another box of NIC grids and make a different/better gate and I’m going to put them on the ends of my couch with the sheet tucked to see if that deters her.
PHoey is a truly nasty tasting spray. I got it at Pet Supermarket. Other places may have it too. Or you can order online. I mean that stuff lasts. 3 years is a long time and it still lingering. lol
Super nasty stuff
By the way the cable man came to fix something and he got that on his hands from the wires. lol. HE wasn’t happy
You gotta lock your buns up when doing things with technology..
I’m not exactly sure why bunnies like to dig up carpet, but my theories include:
As far as the couch goes, it isn’t uncommon for rabbits to chew up or urinate on areas that may have more of a human scent. I’m glad the vinegar/water mix seems to be working. Jack used to get up on the couch and chew and dig so he wasn’t allowed out without direct supervision for a few months, and as soon as he jumped on the couch, I said No and escorted him off. It took him awhile, but he finally got that he wasn’t allowed on the couch. He was allowed more freedom time when he stayed off. Now, he may jump on the the couch– very rare, but when he does, he looks around and realizes he shouldn’t be up there and jumps off. It’s not that I wouldn’t allow a bunny on the couch– I’d love to have them there with me, but I just don’t trust Jack
As far as the back of couch –they could be digging out more room for their cool hide out back there.
Here are a couple of tips from other members that had problems with their bunny going underneath. https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO…underneath
The book that we read before we got bunnies recommended putting a roll of carpet down the back of the sofa as a hide-out to stop digging. Major spends about 85% of his time sat in it, and will run in and thump at us for just about anything. Major isn’t really a digging bunny though so it’s hard to tell if it would actually be a deterrent.
