Gypsum?

<p style=”padding-left: 40px;”>Hello+! I wouldn’t have posted here if the internet could give me a straight answer, but a relative gave me a toy for my sweet boy that’s primarily made of gypsum and artificial coloring. It looks like a texture he might love but I’d hate to find out later he might have been better off if I didnt give it to him-</p>

Hi, I suppose with your boy you mean your bunny 🙂 I wouldn’t give it to the bunny. I only did a quick search but both the gypsum and the paint might be harmful to the rabbit. Gypsum is not deadly to rabbits but it might cause trouble if they ingest it, and there is always a risk that the rabbit will chew on it. The best material for toys is wood, I also like natural textiles, rubber, and metal.

I wouldnt consider gypsum safe. As Katydid says, it’s not toxic, but it wouldnt be good if he ingested it. If it’s a pretty toy maybe you could just use it as a decoration, out of your bun’s reach?

Chewing on drywall can cause problems in rabbits. Gypsum isn’t toxic, but it isn’t good for their GI tract either. I had a bunny that chewed the drywall once and he had stomach pain/gas afterward. I was able to prevent him from chewing anymore and it wasn’t a problem after that. So yes, a “toy” made of gypsum is probably not a good idea.
