Has anyone used a guinea pig harness for their piggies?? My little sister really wants one so she can exercise her chubby piggy. Just wondering…

Do piggies usually enjoy/tolerate walking on the harness?
How do I pick a good harness?
        Any tips for harness training?

We’ve tried the kitten harness on her but it keeps slippign off so I’m thinking maybe its wrong for her body shape, a guinea pig harness would be better suited? Thanks!

It’s not very useful. Better to just let them run around in a larger enclosed area.

I agree that it’s not worth the bother. As a teenager I had a pig and tried a thin harness on her. It didn’t seem to bother her, then she walked as far as getting off the concrete front walk onto the grass, and never budged. It’s like dropping them into a head of lettuce and expecting them to leave heaven.

My bunny HATED a harness. The only time he truly panicked.

is she able to get the piggie outside (yard free of pesticides, pests, predators?) if so, i’d recommend she get a box of NIC grids and make a really large NIC grid fence. since pigs can’t jump over that, she could probably make it one high. most boxes are 26 grids i believe… so that pig could have a very large area to play around in. of course, she’d have to be out there at all times supervising. but i really think that would work much better than a harness.

My dad made a guinea pig enclosure-out of chicken wire and a wooden frame. Our dog was outside with them if we weren’t -she loved to ‘pig sit’ and they really enjoyed it,.

Another way to exercise-get another piggie! (I’m bad!) they enjoy going nose to tail and running all over

There are those bunny walking harnesses the velcro onesI made one to fit my buns but they outgrew it.  Can you make one to fit piggy?

Or the ferret velcro harnesses. They are real small cause ferrets are small maybe it would fit piggie.  If piggie doens’t like it or it doens’t fit you can always return it. You can see them online too at Dr’s foster and smith.

Those ones I see that you just put their legs through and look like leather. I see them and am scared of those. Seems like piggy could just walk out of the.  I could be wrong though. Since I dont’ have a piggie and that kind of harness.

Sounds like you got a unanymous that they dont’ like them and they dont’ work though.

OH there is another type harness too  sorry for double posting here.

It is a braided string like thing. and you can adjust it to fit but the leash and harness are all in 1 piece so there is no elastic leash with it. I like that harness except for the no elastic leash.

I have a piggie harness and my piggie hated it with passion. I only used it twice and both times I thought he would die of a heart attack. Although he was quite nervous all th time…poor piggie.

Chances are your sister will end up having to pull the piggy along anyway, so it’s not really exercise. Do they have toys available for piggys like they do hamsters? Like the running wheels etc?

In that case I might give the harness a miss.. she can always walk my cat she’s pretty good on the harness anyway. I am in the process of making them a really big (5m x 2m) run so they can exercise outside but in the meantime they have a room just for them which is animal proofed so they can run amuck. Thanks!

that run sounds like it’ll be great! that way the pig can play and munch on his own terms!

Oh good you are finding a solution. Yeah harnesses were not successful 10-1 here for your dear little piggies.
