Recently we got Eeyore a 4 month old mini lop. The first 3 days or so we let him settle in and gave him limited interaction in his space. Since then I’ve been trying to build a bond with him I’ve sat both in the corner or his cage and let him out for floortime. Increasingly he has been making a low grumbling grunting noise when I’m near both in and out of his cage. It doesn’t seem to go with any aggression or excitement so it’s not like the honking I’ve been used to with previous rabbits for feeding time etc. He is especially noisy when he’s running in and out of his cage to me. He’s not lunging or biting and doesn’t seem mad he will happily eat near me or sit near me. As the noise is becoming more frequent is it just hormonal or should I be looking out for any other behaviours. As he’s new to the family and a little older I want to make sure I’m not doing anything that may effect the trust early on.

It definitely sounds hormonal in nature. He’s at the age where he’s able to be neutered. I’d still hold off a month or two though just so he’s comfortable with your family and won’t be too stressed from all the changes. If he does get aggressive-ish while you’re in the cage when he is more comfortable it could be him saying get out of my area. A lot of bunnies don’t enjoy their cages being invaded while they are in there. Their cage is like their safe space. I don’t think that’s what is happening now, but if he does get aggressive about it.
