We have a huge problem brushing shadow.  She doesn’t like it. She doesn’t like to be held either.  I’ve tried many of times, she growls at me/brush and actually tries to bite the brush or glove brush.  What to do?  she is starting to look nappy/scraggly.

You need to try to groom her somewhere “out of her element”.  Is there a room or area where she is not allowed?  I groom my bunnies on our deck outside when it is nice out- I lay a towel on the table and comb away.  The bunnies are not frightened but they are “awed” enough to let me groom them a lot!

You could try grooming on top of the washer or dryer- just the change of scenery should be enough to keep them in place and look to you for “protection”.

What are you using to groom?  Make sure that you are using something that is not poking the skin- like a slicker brush or a sharp toothed comb could.

When I need my bunnies to stay somewhat still, I usually put them up on a counter top on a towel. I think that being up in the air makes them a little more nervous and a little more likely to stay still. Make sure that you have all your necessary grooming items up on the counter with you because you never want to leave your bunny un-attended up on the counter.

We do our brushing in the bathroom on the days we do a full condo cleaning. Assuming of course that we can get her to come out of her condo that week lol. She’s very opposed to being brushed, but once she’s in the bathroom she’s super mellow. She still isn’t fond of being brushed but she’s a bit more tolerant.

I can’t pick up Sammy either, so I get on the floor and give her head pets, but gently push her head down as I do that. It’s a dominance position that she obeys, gets pets, and I groom with the other hand.

That is how I get to do brushing once in awhile, she then catches on and off she goes. I’ll keep trying each time she comes out (try daily, before dinner). Thank you all for the comments
