I love grooming rabbits, my guys hate it but they get done on a regular base, anal glands are about the only thing I do not do on a regular base and I am luck y neither of my guys have issues with theirs.

I was at the pet shop the other weekend and groomed most of the pet rabbits they have in there, all week people have been coming in asking if the “rabbit groomer” is coming back.  the pet shop has now asked me to run a grooming session where people can bring their rabbits in to me in the shop to do as well as doing a “how to groom your rabbit” workshop.

Not only do i think this would be a fun side gig and a way to get some extra dosh for my shelter but it would also raise awareness.  One lady came in today when i was talking to them and told me that untill last weekend she never knew you could groom a rabbit let along clip their nails or that there are rabbit vets and she has 4 rabbits

So the pet shop wants to know what I would charge fo the service.  I figure about $15 for nail clipps, $40 for basic full brush (no wash) for lion heads and long haired rabbits would be extra depending on time.  Any rabbits that flip out or are two badly matted for me to help will be referred to the vet for sedation and a shave.

Also wanted to add I have groomed dogs my entire life, we use to breed and show corgi’s as well as sheep dogs and I know they are different and I have been doing sessions with the only other rabbit groomer that I know in Melbourne and so far have not hit an issue so I am confident in my ability and this is not something I would undertake if I thought for a second that I would be putting a rabbits life in danger.

So any thoughts on price would be good.  Also i am trying to put together a care sheet for rabbits but the thing keeps ending up being like 12 pages long (yes my rabbits are spoilt!) so anyone have a good cut down one that would be great.

That sounds like a great idea! I don’t know what the price should be, because I am not very good with gauging what a price should be, but I think that it is a great way to raise awareness!

my rescue here does a monthly grooming/nail trim thing for donations, usually $5-$10 per rabbit. Some people give more, some less. They do the full nail trim, anal glands, brushing, and check teeth. I <3 the Rabbit Advocates.
