Since Honey Bunny (funny name for a boy I know but he came with it)  hates to be groomed I have started using the long green rubber brush I got from the dog section of the pet store.  He does not mind that a bit.  I have the grooming glove too.  That will help with petting him cause he sheds all the time.   When we pet him some hair comes off.  That glove would be great to use to pet him with too.  And the fur doesn’t fly.  It sticks to the brush and the glove.  The hard part is getting the hair off the glove and brush hehe.

So if anyone else has a picky bunny try it out

I went to groom all three bunnies yesterday. Hair is coming out by the handfuls all of a sudden on all three of them! The glove works great for them, usually, but with how dry it is here now, the fur just flies everywhere despite the glove. I was choking to death on it last night.

And to top it off, Pip seems to have a barbered spot on her rump. I don’t know if she is doing it (it is similar to how she trims her chest fur) or if Mimzy has been pulling her fur.

          It looks horrible.

I just love to brush her. Yes she is almost as lovely.  The hair on her back I cut is growing out quick. Hurrah.  I won’t cut her hair again.  Just the bottom so it doesn’t drag on the ground and around her bum so it can stay clean.

I got some pics of her hair in the wind too.  the big fluff.   I keep thinking somehow I got my angora.  Now I just wish she could be as cuddly hehe.

Awe she is grooming Cotton as we speak.

OH  amazing thing Honey Bunny I groomed him with a regular bun brush yesterday and he didn’t object.  He is so confusing him.  Maybe he figures he likes it now.  After the nice rubber brush he calmed down now isnt’ that cool.  He is a big luv and so affectionate.

To this day, Mimzy detests being groomed. Maybe it’s a lop thing. Pip and Fiver will put up with it. Mimzy runs around the xpen like the devil himself is after him. And boy do I get thumps!

Luckily he’s not shedding as bad as the other two. But still….what a pain!

Hehee…I can see Ruby in the picture, her fur blowing in the wind…kinda like a model bunny, huh? ^_^

We haven’t een able to groom/brush(the typical small wire pet brush) shadow, she is now shedding up a storm. we are able to pull out hairs here and there, but getting her to sit still is out of the question. Any advise on how to do this,

I would advise not using a pet brush with wire prongs of any kind. This could be too sharp for your bunny’s delicate skin. It will go straight through the hair to the skin beneath and scratch it, causing possible open wounds which will not endear your bun to grooming of any kind.

Usually a soft bristled baby brush or a grooming glove will do, if it’s not a long haired bunny. What thickness/length/texture would you say your bun has?

Ok, thank you. I guess that’s why she flinches sometimes. where can I find the grooming glove. I really don’t know exactly, short haired, moderate thickness i guess

Well if you have a PETCO or Petsmart in your area, they should probably carry it. It looks like this:

I got mine at my local grocery store in the pet aisle. And I just noticed it’s definitely a right hand glove. If you’re left-handed, it might be a little odd using it.

Oooh awesome..I’m definitely gonna get one of these for Drue.  He’s been better about letting me pet him so I think I could get away with a grooming glove.  And I never thought of it..I have one of those wire brushes..that must be why he hates it so much!!!  Luckily I only did it like once and got a few swipes in and he hated it so much that I just started picking at his hair.  But he hates that..I think he equates it with a nip??  I dunno lol but I think the grooming glove would be much more useful.  Tonight he was wrestling me for a snickers bar..don’t worry he didn’t get any..and he kept leaping over my laptop and lap when I’d move it to the other hand to get it away from him..and fur was just flying all over the place. Blech.

So now…I’m gonna have to just get some chocolate scented perfume..and a grooming glove.  Then when he runs to lick me to death I can groom him!!

cool thanks for the photo, i’ve never seen them @ petco. but your local grocery store had them in the pet section, we’ll check. i would take it a diet has nothing to do with this much hair shedding (we haven’t changed her diet at all same thing ever day) . tips with grooming.

I don’t think there’s anything you could have in your bunny’s diet that would affect the rate of shed, but I am by no means an expert in bunny dietary needs. Perhaps you could list what your rabbit eats and another forum member more knowledgeable can assist you?

I also stink at grooming, but for the most part I just try to keep them in my lap and calm while I pull the glove over their pelt. They don’t like it, but they get a treat afterward and all is forgiven.
You want to be sure you don’t put too much pressure on them either. Just enough to take the fur that’s loose off. You may have to brush them every day during a week while they are shedding, but for most bunnies I think once a week is a good schedule, just to keep it under control.

thanks. My wife and I think we can tag/team, I’ll hold her still, while she grooms. I’m sure she’ll get one over on us and get away.

I got a pair of grooming gloves from petsmart this weekend!  They’re working fantastic!  I didn’t get the kind pictured there..I got a pair of like knitted gloves that have rubber on them to help pull the hair.  They were a lot cheaper..like 3.49 for the two of them.   Drue apparently LOVES them too..that was the stillest that he has ever sat for me while petting him!  It must feel good to have the loose fur gone.  He even kept changing position like “oooh ooh get here too..and here here” I got A LOT of loose fur off of him.  So much that it was actually noticeable how much smoother his coat was afterward.

Now I just need to vacuum his condo later tonight.  Woooh boy is that gonna be a lot of work.  He has fur stuck to EVERYTHING.

Now if you’ll excuse me Miss Tucker would like me to come do her hair appt too.  She doesn’t need it but geez don’t try to tell HER that..she looked so jealous..so I have to go endulge Miss Tucker De Bunz!

Hahahahah omg..apparently Tucker changed her mind.  Either that or I mis read her look of “jealousy”.  Maybe it was a look of “you come near me with that thing and I KILL you!”.  She freaked out and attacked the glove.  And it wasn’t that it smelled like Drue..it came with two gloves so I used the other one for Tucker.  I did get a few swipes in though and no fur came off..she has a different type of fur then Drue does and she doesn’t shed NEARLY as much.  Most of hers comes off onto the fleece blanket that she has and I just shake that loose one a week and she’s good to go!

Oh I hear that Alicia! ^_^ I went to brush Fiver with the love glove the other day and it’s the first time he’s ever SNAPPED at me for trying to groom him. I was wondering where THAT suddenly came from. Normally he’ll hop around madly and try to get away, but he’s never tried to take a piece out of me! 0_o
