Yeah, Kate, I can totally see your point…but I think a large part of the problem is that people don’t have any idea what bunnies are like. I certainly didn’t. Even with months of research, and meeting a couple ahead of time, Lizzy was still largely a mystery when I first adopted her. People have a point of reference for dogs and cats, but not with rabbits. Especially since rabbits are so shy in their own way. I see the rabbits who are technically in the care of shelters, but on display at pet stores to generate interest, and they just sit there. Because they’re confined, and lonely, and scared…and unless people see videos like this, they’ll never know that that almost catotonic state is not normal! Although they do gloss over some of the trouble-making…like my rabbits would every voluntarily confine themselves to one room, like on the video! My rabbits are every place I don’t prevent them from being!
And the lettuce tihing–Lizzy and Robbie do it all the time! It used to just be Robbie that stole food from Lizzy (as if he didn’t have a bowl full right in front of him!), and I would get SO mad at him! But now Lizzy does it just as much, so I figure it’s their issue, and leave them to figure it out!
