I went in to feed my bunnies one morning and Lilly didn’t perk up like she usually did. She was limp and not breathing right. She struggled to pull herself forward but seemed like her one side was paralyzed. So I rushed her to the vet. On the way she had two seizures. They gave her IV fluids and she came out of it. They let me see her and she looked herself and came to me, so I left her overnight to be watched. They told me she was just hypothermic and sometimes this happens. The next morning I got a call that she hadn’t made it. It was the most devastating phonecall I’ve ever gotten. I found later that she’d had an intestinal parasite that’s extremely hard to catch and her poor body had shut down. I’d only adopted her two weeks earlier and she was only 7 months old. She’s been a sick little girl for a long time before that. She made such an impact in my life in those two short weeks. My bunny Benny loved her and really mourned her and got GI stasis after she passed. It’s been so hard on the family. I wish more people knew about this parasite (coccidia) and how to catch it. I’ve learned so much about it and had my other bunny tested and thankfully he’s fine. The whole experience has made me want to help animals and people and really spread more knowledge. I recommend anyone get their bunny’s poop tested as soon as you bring them home and keep track of their weight! It could save a life.

          I’m sorry for your loss.

Thank you for sharing Lilly’s story. It can help other bunnies and bun owners.

I’m glad Benny tested negative for the coccidia parasite.
